"RHEA!!" my twin sister yelled, running into my room.
"What Ruby?" I asked, sitting up from where I was lying on my bed reading.
"The prince is holding a ball and commoners are allowed to go. Apparently it's for his 21st birthday. His parents are hoping he finds someone to date. They are so desperate they are letting normal people go."
"Is this some modern times Cinderella shit? Cause if so, I'm not going. You had me at the ball. But then you lost me at date." I sighed, returning to my book.
"Come on! If you're not going to go, can you at least make me a dress? You're the one going to college for fashion design. And you have way better style than me. You just prefer to be lazy and wear hoodies and sweatpants." Ruby pouted.
"Fine." I sighed.
"I'll make you something. What color?" I asked, getting up from my bed and looking for my sketchbook.
"I should be able to go to one of the cheap fabric stores and find fabric to make an expensive enough looking dress for less money." I mumbled to myself. "Maybe I'll make a dress for me just in case."
"Pink!" Ruby said happily. "Thank's sis, you're the best? Now I have to go shopping with mom. See you later."
Why do I now feel like Cinderella? Doesn't matter. At least she's gone, so I can read in peace.
As I'm reading, I heard my phoen buzz in my pocket. I pull it out and see it's my best friend.
"What do you want, Piper?" I asked.
"EKKKKK." she screamed. "DID YOU HEAR THE NEWS? DID RUBY TELL YOU?"
Oh god, not her, too.
"THE PRINCE IS HOLDING A BALL!!! I REPEAT PRINCE LIAM IS HOLDING A BALL!!!"
"Piper chill. It's literally not a big deal."
"NOT A BIG DEAL?" She yelled. "THIS IS HUGE!!! ONE OF US COULD BE THE NEXT QUEEN!!!"
"I don't see all the hype about being royal..." I mumbled.
"Are you kidding! Being royal sounds exceptional! Getting to be a part of the royal family would be a dream come true!"
"For you maybe." I scoffed. "I am not going to be some modern day Cinderella, thank you very much. As much as I love reading, fairytales suck, they aren't realistic. I hate fairytales so much you don't understand. Last time I watched a Disney movie was when my 5-year-old cousin forced me to watch Rapunzel."
"So just go for fun. A ball seems epic. Like prom, but better. Which reminds me, can you make my dress? I don't want anything crazy, just a white dress with silver beading."
"Nothing crazy, my foot." I muttered.
"Please."
"Yeah sure. I already have to make Ruby's."
"Thanks!"
Piper hangs up, and I am left to my book and sketchpad. Why on Earth does there have to be a ball?
——
"RHEA!" Piper and Ruby yelled, running into my room.
"It's the night of the ball. Do you have our dresses done?" Ruby asked hopefully.
"Yup, they are on the mannequins." I said, pointing to the two dress mannequins next to my desk.
Piper and Ruby squeal and grab their dresses. A few minutes later, they both come back in wearing their dresses. Ruby's dress had a poofy light pink tulle skirt. The bodice was strapless and had a sweetheart neckline. It was also covered in a bunch of white rhinestones and pearls that I found cheap on Amazon. Piper's dress had a long white skirt. It had a thick white belt that tied in the back to eventuate her waist. The top was made of a glittery silver fabric and had a bunch of silver rhinestones sewn on. The bodice also had a deep slim v-neck that had a mesh covering.
