*this is like a whole soulmate thingy. I would call it a soulmate au but like idk if that is exactly what it's called cus no fandom is involved or sum idk.*
When someone is born, they are assigned a soulmate. Some people say if we didn't live in a world where you would assign soulmates, that person would still be the one you ended up with. Some tell you it's a waste of time and that it doesn't matter. In my opinion, I think soulmates are cool; I mean, it might just be the fact that I'm a hopeless romantic, but there's something awesome about how a soulmate is supposed to be your other half, how fate has a weird way of bringing people together. Not all soulmates work out, and some never find their soulmate because they believe that fate shouldn't dictate them. But if people never seek out their soulmate, then how do they know that the person they are with isn't actually their soulmate? You can't avoid fate. I mean, sure, there is the question of what if soulmates don't work out, but I think that fate isn't perfect and sometimes it makes mistakes, or maybe it's the people's mistake? Guess we'll never know because the science behind soulmates is unexplainable.
Now you might be wondering how do you find your soulmate. Well... once both soulmates turn eighteen, then whatever they write on their arm/hand shows up on their soulmate's hand. It's pretty cool. There are also platonic soulmates, which is also cool because they're like your forever best friend, and they aren't decided when you're born, they happen when you find them in real life, and you know because once you meet them you can talk to them in your head. For example, on the first day of kindergarten, I looked at this girl in my class named Rylee and we instantly were able to talk to each other in our heads. Without even talking, fate decided that we found our other half. And we've been friends ever since. My mom calls us soul sisters because quite literally we are each other's other half but in like a friend way. I don't know how to explain it.
Enough about platonic soulmates and back to romantic ones. I turned eighteen four months ago. My birthday is September 13th so I'm one of the oldest in my class. It's January 24th and I still haven't received anything from my soulmate. Every day, I doodle a little drawing on my hands during class to see if my soulmate finally turned eighteen, but alas, I am still waiting. As my calculus teacher droned on, I kept drawing on my hand with my blue ballpoint pen. I drew little hearts on my wrist and a smily face in between my fingers. I even wrote hello on my finger. After a while, I got bored and decided to talk to Rylee.
"What's up?" I said in my head.
"THANK GOD! ANDREA MAY GONZALES YOU DON'T KNOW HOW HAPPY I AM TO HEAR FROM YOU." I heard my best friend scream in my head. I had to stifle my laugh so my teacher wouldn't get suspisous.
"Is health really that boring?" I asked.
"I know you're smirking right now because I waited till senior year to take health." Rylee said and just by her tone, I knew she rolled her eyes.
"Okay. Well, have you heard from your soulmate at all recently?" I asked. Rylee turned eighteen last month and lucky for her, her soulmate was already eighteen.
"Actually, I have." She said excitedly. "He said he's nineteen and a freshman at Virginia Tech! I mean, at first I thought the age difference would be bad, but honestly, it's fine. And you and I were planning to apply to Virginia Tech, so we might see him. And we're at least in the same state!"
"That's awesome Ry! What's his name?"
"I asked, but he hasn't respond he's probably in class and actually paying attention, unlike us." Again I had to stop myself from laughing. But to be honest, I'm super good at math and know most of this stuff, anyway. Rylee and our other friend Bennett say I'm a human calculator.
The bell rang and Rylee and I said goodbye to each other because it was lunch and we would be able to talk in person, anyway. Usually we preferred talking out loud when we were face to face unless it's private, we want to screw with Bennett or we're in the same class. Bennett gets annoyed with us talking to each other. He's platonic soulmate is his older sister Sara, and she's a sophomore in college so she's obviously not in the same school as us.
