You know how people have secrets? Like who they have a crush on or that they failed a test? Yeah, well, I have secrets too, and mine are not little secrets like failing a test. No one besides my parents knows my secret. My best friend has no clue about my secret and I planned to keep it that way. If word got out about me, things would not be good. I don't even know why my parents let me go to public school with this secret.
"Sweetie, time for school!" My mother called.
"Coming!" I said, taking one more look at myself in the mirror. I pride myself on always being dressed nice for school. Today I have on a green dress. The top is a corset bodice with a square neckline and sheer poofy sleeves attached to the dress. The dress's skirt was made up of many layers of tulle. And the whole dress was covered in a delicate floral pattern. The green color of the dress matched my pale green eyes and accented my olive toned skin and my thick, dark brown curly hair, which falls down to my waist.
I walked downstairs with my backpack and entered the kitchen, where a plate of toast was waiting for me at the table.
"You look pretty today, Sage." My dad said, entering the kitchen.
"Thanks." I smiled.
I finished my toast, and my mom took me to school. "Have a good day sweetie!" She shouted from the car.
"Hey Sage!" my best friend Reina said as I walked into first period, which was World History.
"Hey Reina." I smiled.
Instead of our teacher walking in, one of the subs walked in. He wrote his name on the board and then walked over to the teacher's desk.
"Hey everyone, I'm Mr. Boone and I'll be your sub today. First, I'm going to take role."
He went through the roll. I wasn't paying attention. I was doodling flowers on a piece of scrap paper until he said. "Sage Meadowbrook."
"Here." I said, looking up from my paper.
He finished role and then started on the lesson. "So today you guys are going to be learning about Ancient Greece, specifically Greek mythology." he said, writing on the board. "Your teacher said that you focused on the Greek Gods yesterday. So today we're going to do the Goddesses."
"Do you all know any Greek goddesses?" He asked.
Reina, of course, raised her hand. "Athena." She said proudly.
"Alright anyone else?" He asked. Oscar, a boy who sat across from me, raised his hand. Renia and I talked to him a lot, and we had other classes with him. We actually got quite close.
"Mother Nature." Oscar answered.
"Good." He said, smiling.
This went on for a little while until most of the Greek Goddesses were up on the board.
"Your teacher, in his notes, said to start with Mother Nature first." Mr. Boone said. "So they believed Mother Nature to be a woman who controlled nature, as said in her name. She controlled the weather on the Earth and made plants grow or die. She represented healing, and as long as the Earth is still alive, she will still be here doing her job."
"Now next is Athena." He said.
I got bored and zoned off. Today is going to be a long day.
——
The bell rang, signaling school was over. I rushed out of the classroom. I said goodbye to Reina and made my way to the school's front doors.
I walked outside and walked on the sidewalk. I had to walk home today because both my parents were busy, which I didn't mind today was such a nice day outside. Thank you mom.
