Jessica Timbers P.O.V.
"Jessica, Is that you?"
A voice I knew all too well rang in my ears, making my blood freeze.
I turned to face Josh, who was looking at me with his brows raised in surprise.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, his brown eyes moving up to Derrick's.
I was too shocked to answer. I watched in cold sweat, the wheels turning in his head, piecing together my messy hair, Derrick's oversized t-shirt that I wore, and our exit from the same room.
"Or what were you doing in his room?" He arched an eyebrow at me, a sly smirk creeping on his lips.
I opened my mouth, but Derrick beat me to it.
"It is none of your business. Leave." He said and placed his hand on my back to urge me to move, but I was rooted to the spot.
Fear gripped the whole of my body, and I internally thanked Derrick for not leaving my side.
"It is not," he shrugged, "but I doubt Mr. Abdel will be happy to hear about your nocturnal activities."
His eyes fell back on me, his smirk growing so big that it began to creep me out.
"This is not what it looks like, Josh." I said, gathering myself together.
Both of their eyes fell on me, and I was caught like a deer in spotlight.
Josh yet again raised his eyebrow at me, but Derrick stepped ahead.
"Leave her out of this, Josh. You can go ahead and tell Mr. Abdel whatever you want. The worst that will happen is he will throw me out of this trip, and we both know I would be least disappointed by that."
Josh looked annoyed by Derrick's nonchalance. It was apparent that both of them were not fans of each other.
"But," he glanced at me and added, "We can make a deal."
Josh scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest.
"I don't think you are in a position to make deals."
"Hear me out, bastard." Derrick rolled his eyes.
We both turned to Derrick, listening closely to whatever he had to propose.
"I know you are cheating on my cousin, and not just once but several times. I also know that she is the key for you to hold the position of captain."
The tables turned. I watched all the colours from Josh's face drain, and he took a step back in shock.
I couldn't say that he was the only one who was shaken by the information. Despite Samantha's difficult personality, Josh always kept up with it and never left her side. They were always so into each other that I started to believe that what they had was love.
"H-how... wh-" He stuttered, but Derrick ignored him.
"Your parents have high ambitions for you, Josh, and you wouldn't want all of it to crash down if Sam got to know about it. Would you? So, coming to the point, forget whatever you saw here tonight and I will make sure she doesn't know a thing."
Derrick was serious; there was no sign of his usual arrogant smirk and he appeared more intimidating with his towering height.
Josh was horrified and stumbled on words. His captainship, his future, everything passed through his eyes followed by the fear of losing it all.
He sighed and nodded passively.
"Deal."
"Deal." Derrick said with a smug face, enjoying his distressed state.
