The rest of the day consisted of stupid classes with stupid teachers who gave stupid assignments. All of course, except for McGonagall- Who, Harry had decided- was his favourite teacher.
His least favourite fell with either Snape, the potions master and a greasy git, or Quirrl, a stuttering mess of a teacher with a stupid turban who seemed scared of the kids.
Finally, the day was over, they only had three classes a day, which was pretty dumb in Harry's opinion. After the first hour the kids were losing focus, especially if its just reading and note taking.
Since both Harry and Alice had never learned how to read or write or even speak, school was not something they enjoyed. This was their first year ever at a school as the Dursleys never saw it fit to send them to a school.
They were surprised that no one made comment of their slow and choppy speech that was interlaced with street slang making what they did say almost impossible to understand. It didn't help that they had already lost Gryffindor 10 points each for swearing.
So in short, school was not going well.
~~~~~~~"Mr and Ms. Potter! Come here please!"
Harry and Alice both turned simultaneously, their hand reaching for their pockets where their wands and a knife sat. Both shook their heads, they were so paranoid. No one was going to attack them in a school.
"Yes professor McGonagall?" Alice asked, her voice stuttering over the word Professor. Double S's always messed her up
"Come with me please." Harry glanced at Ron shrugging, before he followed after Alice and McGonagall, his black robes fluttering behind him.
~~~
"Tea?"Harry and Alice looked up startled at the usually stern professor. She was offering them tea? Next Snape would kiss their cheeks and claim he was in love with their mother.
"Um, no thank you Professor." Harry mumbled, playing with a string on his backpack. He didn't like the way she was looking at them.
The professor took a deep breath and looked right at them, Harry couldn't help but notice that her glasses look oddly like the marks around Minny, a cat that was often found wandering around Gryffindor tower after glasses were over for the day.
"It has come to my attention that he two of you don't know how spell or write properly and you obviously have some issues speaking." She said, getting right to the point.
Harry's hand shot to his lip, he didn't like it very much when people pointed out his obvious problems. It wasn't HIS fault he'd never gone to school before now. It wasn't HIS fault his parents died, it wasn't HIS fault that some dummy left him with an abusive family.
It wasn't.
"Well, that's to expected if you've never been to a school before." Alice snapped, her patience thin. Who was this lady to be pointing out HER speech flaws!? It was none of her business.
McGonagall looked tired as she spoke to them, seeming more her age then ever before. "I'm fully aware of that Ms. Potter. I told Albus many times that he shouldn't have left you with those muggles. My point was only confirmed when you two ran away and they failed to notify the police." Harry flinched at the mention of his relatives, his face losing a bit of its colour.
"I know there is no way to right my terrible wrong, but I would like to extend an offer of helping you privately in reading, writing and speech. I will not have the children of Lily and James Potter fail because of my own idiocy."
To say the two eleven year olds were shocked was an understatement. An adult, who'd known their parents well and who even seemed to have liked them, wanted to help them?
Harry glanced at Alice who nodded, nudging his shoulder with hers, a code they'd created for 'You talk.'
"I do not blame you for that senile old mans idiocy. The fact that you tried to help us is enough to show how much of a Gryffindor you must be. And I think we will take you up on that offer."
Alice nodded smiling. Life really was looking up.
*
Harry was absolutely ecstatic. He was on the Quidditch team! The youngest seeker ever! Alice grinned at him, giving him her silent approval. She was happy herself, her brother was getting out of his awkward shell and was starting to socialise more. Maybe he could even make some other friends other than Ron and herself.I'm not going to go into detail with with the whole remembrall thing. Harry's on the Quidditch team yay. So anyways, there are going to be a lot of time skips it upcoming chapters. Like I'm only really going over the important parts (ie: the troll, the stone etc). Some things will be skipped (ie Norbert). Keep in mind this is an Au fic (obviously). Things will be skipped, added, glossed over etc. Also, as you can see I changed my name. I'm still the same person obviously, I'm just uh, White-Space now.
