-His hands are in my hair, his clothes are in my room
And his voice is a familiar sound-
Antoinette Salvatore was a girl many didn't even know existed. It wasn't an accident, either. As far as everyone knew, Zach Salvatore never had any children. None that were alive, anyway. For a time he didn't even know he had a daughter.
Her mother was a woman he only dated for a few months. It hurt when she suddenly left, but it wasn't a surprise.
Antoinette was almost four years old when her mother died. That call was the first time he learned of her existence.
Zach was a good father. He needed a lot of help from the Gilbert family in the beginning.
The only person Antoinette ever talked to was their daughter Elena. They were almost the same age.
Elena and Antoinette really did become inseparable. For years they stuck to each other's side.
But when Zach found out that Stefan would be coming through town... Wherever Stefan went, Damon wasn't too far behind in his experience.
He sent Antoinette to a boarding school. It was the angriest she had ever been, but in his eyes it was how it had to be.
After he died, Antoinette didn't come back. The only thing anyone knew was that she was in a bad place.
Her medical bills were all still being sent to... Really, her house. It was more hers than it was Stefan or Damon's.
Therapy bills, Hospital bills, didn't paint a good picture of how she was.
She only came back to mystic falls after Elena called her. And she was glad to get that call.
While Elena was sick with anxiety about Klaus, Antoinette's health had taken a physical and mental decline. It was a time where they both needed each other.
They only let her come after Klaus and Stefan left. No one wanted to risk it. Damon didn't care much, but he still wasn't actively wishing for her to be killed.
Antoinette grew up with the knowledge of vampires. She could defend herself better than... Even Caroline could defend herself. Zach really did teach her everything he knew.
She even had a ring. Much like Stefan and Damon's. Though, the design was a bit more stylized than theirs were. At first glance they did seem identical, excluding the letter A being on hers.
But if you looked closer, you could see that the stone had slight carvings in it. It was, or at least it appeared to be, an abstract design of flowers.
No one knew where it came from. Not even Antoinette herself. Even when considering the fact that it couldn't be removed from her hand, despite fitting loosely, they still had bigger problems.
And those problems just kept getting bigger as time continued.
