In the cafeteria right before Alice canonically died.(I still need therapy for that btw)
CINDY's POV(but in a weird third person style):
"For Shadyside," Cindy said definitively, sharing a glance with her sister.
"For Shadyside," Ziggy repeated. The three of them looked at each other. They knew what they had to do. All Alice had to do was smile her crooked smile.
It was both a blessing and a curse what she saw next.
Tommy, sweet Tommy— or at least his silhouette. The boy she loved— or at least she thought she did. Tommy who she scraped the bathrooms for hours with. Tommy who she had watched brutally murder her coworker. Tommy who was about to kill Alice.
Time seemed to freeze in front of her.
When Tommy had killed Arnie, Cindy froze up, too. She didn't know what to do. It was only Alice's screaming that brought her back. Alice.
Alice with her pretty hair and fierce personality. Alice with her contagious smile and her twisted sense of humor. Alice who's heart shattered into pieces when Cindy had betrayed her. Alice who she's thought of ever since that day.
Cindy saw a million different outcomes of this situation play out before her. Ziggy wouldn't see Tommy until it was too late. Alice would die as Cindy held her in her arms. She couldn't have that happen.
She wasn't going to lose Alice after just getting her back.
She wasn't going to freeze up this time.
"ALICE!" Cindy called, jumping into action. She pushed Alice away from Tommy's reach, grabbing a shovel. Tommy's axe sliced through Alice's arm. She screamed in pain. Had Cindy jumped into action so much as seconds later Alice would have had much worse than a deep cut.
Cindy smashed Tommy's chest with the shovel before driving the sharp end into his neck.
"Why. Can't. You. Fucking. Die!" she exclaimed. The second she finished her sentence his head detached from his body. Now back to her #1 priority. Alice.
"Alice," she hunched over Alice's body, "Alice, are you ok?"
"That was pretty badass, Snitch." Cindy's heart melted while tears brimmed around the corners of her eyes. Never had she been happier to hear that awful nickname. She wrapped her arms around Alice.
"I'm so glad I didn't lose you," Cindy cried into her shoulder.
"Going soft on me now are you, Berman." Cindy felt blush creep up onto her cheeks.
"Umm... guys," Ziggy started, grabbing Sarah's hand. Their moment had been interrupted by the eery singsong voice of Ruby Lane.
"Shit." Cindy quickly helped Alice back up to her feet.
"Berman," Alice cried, "you're gonna have to go without me. I can't run like this."
Cindy began to cry once again, "No! I can't do that."
"Cindy please," Alice was crying too, "I'll only slow you down."
"Alice I have known you since I was five. You and I, we were inseparable. I have been in love you ever since you tripped over my castle in our kindergarten sandbox. Alice, I just got you back into my life, and I can't lose you again; so forgive me if I think that a slower pace is worth keeping you in my life!" Just like that. All of Cindy's feelings spilling out of her like an overflowing sink. Alice just looked at her in shock.
Ruby's singing only got louder.
"You guys are really cute, but we need to get out of here now," Ziggy said firmly.
