Chapter 4

    The crack from wall to wall reached about a mile apart and went miles. From side to side, both sides looked as if they used to be connected, but broke apart. Legend has it that this was the first gate way from hell to the overworld, and that is why the beasts that are named ‘The GateKeepers’ lie waiting. These beasts are giant-like shadows that can tower even the tallest building. It is told that they have six legs and four arms,with a mantis-like shaped body with a head that is in the shape of a fly trap. Although there are tales about the beasts everywhere, no one has ever really seen it... or at least no one who lived to tell the tail.

As the men started to follow a path that was engraved into the side of the cliff, they kept hearing this wind-like a roar in the distance. Because it sounded like wind, they tried to not pay much mind to what it belonged to. All they could think is to keep moving forward and never look back. For an hour, it seemed creepy, but harmless, with just wind blowing through. The men were uneasy because they knew that their travel through the mountain shouldn’t be so simple.

Because of the uneasy feeling, Luke tries to talk to let go of the feeling, “hey, uh once we are all out of here and when we get to Windever, what do you think will happen next? Like who would try to start a war, especially a time like this?”

In a cautious, but relaxed voice, Dimitri answers, “when we get there, we will find out the foul beings who wish to disturb peace and we shall get rid of them.”

As he stops, Emil adds on, confused, “agreed, but I don’t know who would do such disgraceful things. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn't the doings of the people from the northern house.”

Edward looks at him and replies to his opinion, “they are a rude bunch, but even they wouldn’t go and attack a town for no reason. Maybe there is something we don’t know about. Something we weren’t told.”

As they all look at each other, Edward makes an interesting point. They all hear a huge crash, followed by the ground starting to rumble in anger. They all look around and look into the abyss down below. A loud roar, so loud, they all have to cover their ears in agony. And slow-like, but very quickly, they see the head of the beast start to rise. As they all see this thing ahead of them for the first time, they all are in shock. The GateKeeper then roars once more and slams one of its arms into the wall, completely shattering the path back from where they come, to nothing.
“Run, go go go,” as Dimitri yells at the top of his lungs, trying to get the rest to rush to the end as fast as they could.
As they ran, the beast tried to hit, but missed again, while being accompanied by another one of its own. The men ran as fast as they could, until they saw a cave up ahead that they could take refuge temporarily. They all jumped in, as one of the beasts tried to sweep them off the cliff, but missed so slightly. As they all fell in, they looked at one another in terror, and without even a second to breathe, they heard a noise coming from the opening they came from.

As they looked over, they started to see the GateKeepers open its mouth and a slithering tongue-like thing came out of its mouth, creeping in the cave in search of the men. It was disturbing looking. It didn’t do much but feel around for them, and with swift thinking, Edward swung his sword at it, completely cutting it in half. As they saw the beast jump back in pain, they saw it as their escape from the beast.

They ran faster than ever before, as the other beast began to jump over the other and chase the men to the end. Luckily for them, they were close to the end already and darted for it. As they got closer, they started to see the beautiful sunshine beaming down, but as they got closer, the beast got more desperate. It began to slam the cliff with its head as hard as it could, trying to make them fall down, but it did not work and the men made it out. As they got out, they sprinted down the cliff and turned around where the beast tried to follow them out. As it ran outside, the sun began to burn its very flesh. It screamed so unpleasantly, the men couldn’t listen. As it burned, it leaped back into the crack screaming, but getting further and further away.

When the screaming disappeared, they finally got relief flowing through them, as they looked at each other terrified for their lives they began to laugh.
