I immediately sprung awake and looked around the room.
"Jansen..?" I whispered.
No response. I stepped out of my bed and looked inside of the closet. No sign of him.
Crap! What if my mother found him when she went to wake me up this morning! No wonder why I didn't hear her " bossy mom'' attitude yelling at me to get ready.
I hurried to the bathroom and looked inside the tub. He wasn't there. Anxiety rushed through my body causing me to feel like the room was slowly moving.
"Jansen…Jansen..!" I whispered again as I entered each room and quickly glancing around. What if he went to school already! Or he went back out for a late night walk!
Even making these fake scenarios in my head made my anxiety worse. I sighed and cupped my face. Hopefully he just went to school already and met up with Serena to explain everything to her.
Ever since I called her last night about everything she's been extremely worried and constantly leaving me text messages like a concerned parent.
I smiled and walked back into my room to get dressed. After a few minutes I gathered my backpack and stepped in front of the mirror.
I had a good feeling a pair of black jeans and a long brown sleeve shirt would look good together. I threw on a pair of sneakers and walked downstairs where I could hear my mom and father talk about what was on the tv."Around 9oclock last night three people were found dead right by the Jackson River. We have detectives and police observing the situation…."
"This is why I don't think she should be out hanging around with people!" My father yelled, pointing at the tv.
My mom sighed and placed down the black pan on the burner which had a half cooked pancake on it. "She's old enough to have a say in what she can do and cannot do! She's gonna be 18 in less than a year!"
"This is unacceptable! I won't have you allow my daughter to run around town with whoever!"
"They are her friends! And Our daughter deserves to go out and see the world!, not be sheltered here!"
My father jumped up from his seat and looked directly at my mother with anger filled eyes, my mom crossed her arms and turned back to him which made him even more mad.
In response he slowly sat back down in his seat and flipped back open the newspaper. She sighed and turned around as her eyes widened, immediately wanting to change the topic.
"Good morning Opheila!"
"Good morning Mom." I said, taking a seat directly across from my father.
She walked over to me and placed down a plate into the table. It was filled with pancakes and bacon.
I grabbed two pancakes and two slices of bacon and started eating."So Ophelia," My father said, breaking the silence but still keeping his eyes drawn onto the newspaper. "What's up with these new 'friends" of yours huh?'
I took another bite. "Well, I don't really know much about the guys yet but Serena is really nice and helped me out during my first day."
"And what does her parents do for a living?"
"They work out of town for their business. But her mother is the one mainly with her own company."
My father looked up from the newspaper at me with his misty green eyes. "Interesting. So she lives alone most of the time?"
I nodded and continued eating. Everyone went silent for a good Five minutes until I heard solace coming downstairs in her usual happy way.
"Mom, I need to borrow 10 dollars!"
