reality C-137, somewhere in america.
next time ??? opened their eyes, they were standing in a busy street, where cars were honking at each other and pedestrians were putting in an effort in navigating the crowded sidewalk.
??? had known they had gotten to where they wanted, now the only thing was to meet up with the people they wanted. they had to be smart about this, the people they wanted to meet were not average in any way, any slight misstep could bring their plans to ruin.
??? had considered scripting themselves into the duo's close circle, but chances were they would've noticed it, as they were already intimate with quantum jumping themselves. so, ??? had devised a simple yet effective plan.
they'd start off as a new exchange student at morty's school, get close with summer, go over to her house enough to establish their place there and then manipulate their way into actually moving in. the hows and why's will have to wait to be answered, but ??? already had a solid plan (thank the universe for their quick thinking)
thankfully, ???s monetary balance had been taken care of even before they arrived there, so the only thing was to complete all paperwork for their enrollment into school (why did they even have to go to school again?). walking around the neighbourhood, ??? found the place they were searching for, a quiet, niche cafe that they had scripted in as their workplace/temporary housing arrangement, so they went in.

...constructing a new identity may have sounded simple enough on paper, but soon enough ???s head was spinning, all the blanks on the paper form melting together. ??? was trying to fill out the school paperwork, as well as trying to wreck their brain for a sound excuse as to how they (an international/ european student) had ended up in the friggen states of all places.
after really thinking it through, ??? decided it was not worth the effort so they decided to just write whatever. the result they ended up with was as follows:
first name: aster
last name: wilkes
d/o/b: 28th of October
age: 16
sex: f
nationality:... now that's where things got confusing. originally, 'aster' was from eastern Europe. but she kind of wanted to mix things up a bit, so in the end she hesitantly wrote down
nationality: ... english/german. in her defence, she could speak fluently in both languages, even before shifting. her "backstory" went as follows:
aster was born in england to a multilingual couple (english(?) mother and.... idfk, i cant be bothered with the father's identity) but moved to and lived in berlin, germany until she was 9, then moved back to england where she would stay in london with her mother and younger sibling.
she had always been a brilliant mind, able to pick up new skills in no time, and had an above-average iq as well as emotional intelligence. soon enough her skills had gotten her a deal across the ocean, in a summer school in seattle washington.
shed stayed there all summer, had gotten a part-time job at a cafe, and had been offered a place to stay there by the owner (a very hot uni student that may involve into a love interest lol)
after getting permission from her parent, she decided to stay in washington for the whole school year, and that's how she ended up going to school in America.
now i wont be going into detail about the boring procedures that should have taken place for this whole fiasco to be possible (like having a visa etc) but because this whole thing is set in a timeline designed to accommodate rick and morty's obscure adventures without issues, aster was sure there wouldn't be any questions raised.
lifting her head from the pile of documents, she took a sip of her coffee and began to collect her stuff. leaving money on the table (plus an absurdly expensive tip, that for some reason she is obligated to pay?? goddammit america is weird) she exited the establishment and walked towards her temporary apartment.
truth be told, she lived in the heart of the city, while the school morty and summer attended was further away in the suburbs. as for how she would be moving to and from school, she would much rather just figure that out tomorrow.
taking out the keys that had been in her pocket this whole time (man shifting is trippy), she entered one of the more well-off-looking buildings on the block. it was fairly tall, had an inside garden and the place was tidy (and shiny....for that matter).
she followed her instincts as she went up to the sixth floor and unlocked the apartment furthest from the elevator. she was quite impressed by the overall design of the place, a hippy/ boho but modern vibe, all in earthy colours. the space was bigger than she thought it would be but still managed to have a homey feeling.
she felt content with her living space, so much so that she had second thoughts about the whole moving in with the smiths plan... what if she just stayed over there on weekends? i mean rick and morty DO have a portal gun, they could just stop by there if they were going on an adventure...
... maybe she could just say she'd stay with them until she got a driver's license so she won't have to worry about transport.
but that was all for future aster to figure out, current aster only had to worry about what to wear on her first day to school.
