Weeks of tiring training and this stupid coach yelling at him for hours on end every practice over the minutest of minute shit- Kayden felt like a big, fat, overheated teapot. Yes. A steaming kettle, ready to explode.

"Whitlock if slip up one more time- tch, I'm removing you from being co-captain" he heard the old man holler. Everyone was silent as he continued his rumbling and needless arguing. Kayden was very confident that he was senile. Which meant that when he was annoyed them- oh he was annoyed.

"Sorry coach"

Oh yeah and put who exactly as vice-captain? There's actually no one on our team that plays at my level except Klause

They'd been doing the same 5 repetitive drills now for days, he'd barely messed up at all, and if he had- which he didn't- it was because he was exhausted. If this man wasn't a certified professor his face would have been up his ass by now, and not just with Kayden's hands. The rest of the football team looked even more fed up than him. They should probably start placing bets on who's gonna get yelled at the most today.

Klause stood behind the coach, raising his hands in a slapping motion at his half-balding head. Immediately the team went from depleted expressions to wild eyes as a few snickers rose behind him. Coach didn't notice and continued arguing, this was probably going to go on for another 5 minutes. Some days it felt like their practice times were completely taken up by this guy and his big mouth.

The week before the match he finally met up with Maria at the campus park. she was hanging around her friends, then saw him sitting on the fountain ledge. He didn't see her until she was right in front of him. If he heard another person try to argue with him right now, he was going to drown someone in that fountain.

"You smell"

"Well I was just running sweetheart, of course, I smell," he said sarcastically. She sat next to him giggling and they were silent for a bit.

"I know you already apologized and I thought it over, I'm also sorry for not noticing you didn't want to"

"I did"

"Kayden"

"I did"

He wasn't lying, he wanted to. He just didn't know what happened. He didn't go with her just because he felt bad or something. I really wanted to, he told himself angrily. She sighed and looked at the soggy leaves floating around in the fountain.

"I'll give us another chance", she leaned closer to him lowering her voice. "I just want to be with you like that, it feels real, it feels romantic.." she said trailing off. Now Kayden wasn't a love expert but he guess she had a point. Some people needed sex in a relationship to feel like it was one, some people didn't. He hunched over looking at the ground.

"For now I'm fine with taking a break until you feel like you're ready okay?"

"You want to break up?"

"No, I said take a b r e a k"

He looked over at her, her eyes told him she'd already made up her mind, and if Kayden didn't also he was going to lose her. He wasn't that dense, he guessed he'd made her feel like he wasn't attracted to her, he'd also feel a little hurt maybe if the scenario was switched. He practically had no excuse to not have sex, he wasn't bound by anything but himself.

"After the game," he said.

"That's a long enough break for me" she nodded and ruffled his hair, then walked away towards the female dorms.
