She woke up! Quick get the teacher!

Hey ruby dear, are you okay? Miss Howard asks.

Ruby vaguely sees some people standing around her.

Then she remembers what had just happened.

Did she really faint and dream all of that?

But the shadow said it wasn't a dream.

Ruby?

Yes, yes I'm fine. Ruby said.

You don't look fine, you have a wound on your forehead. Jane said.

Can someone get some ice? We need to cool the wound, Sofia there is ice in the cabinet if you would you be so nice to get some? Miss Howard asks

yes miss, I'll be right back.

Ruby do you remember what happened?

Umm I fainted? Ruby said doubting.

Yes you did, are you feeling better now?

I'm okay I think. Ruby said even though her head was pounding and she was still shocked about what had just happened.

I need to get back to my class, miss Howard says. Someone needs to stay with Ruby.

Um I'm so sorry ruby but me and Sofia have to go to math class we really cant miss that. Lilly said.

Oh it's okay I'll be fine.

I can stay with you. Jane said.

But its your first day, don't you want to go to your new classes?

Oh its fine I can start tomorrow.

That's really nice of you Jane, I need to go now if anything happens I'll be in classroom 105. Miss Howard says.

Miss Howard, Lilly and Sofia leave the room.

I'm so sorry Jane this doesn't normally happen.

Jane chuckle's yea I got that, based on your surprised reaction.

Ruby smiles, you know what's weird?

What?

When I fainted I woke up in a big grass field laying on a picnic blanket. And there was a shadow and... You know what it was probably just a dream.

Well maybe it meant something. Jane said in a serious voice.

What else happened?

Uhm the shadow spoke to me, it said that this wasn't a dream and that I had to open a gate before the end of the week.

Omg Ruby you know what that means right? Jane asked concerned.

No? I just think it was weird.

The one that sees the shadow can become the light! Ruby... you're the chosen one! Jane exclaims

The chosen one for what exactly? Ruby asked extremely confused.

It started 10 years ago, every year a person disappears and men says the person that sees the shadow can make the disappearing stop.

This year no one has disappeared yet, so if we are quick we can save someone!

We? Ruby asks. 'We' are not doing anything, this is scary as shit!

So you just want to let another person die? Jane asks.

No.. I- I'm just confused, why me?!

I don't know, has anything ever happened to you? Something weird that you certainly know no one else can do. Jane asks.

Well this one time I was crossing the road and this car nearly hit me but just before it hit me it hit a pole, and I swear I saw a little spark coming out of my hands.

Try it again!

Try what again? Almost getting hit by a car? Ruby asks

Uh noo try to get a little spark out of your hands!

I'll try but I have no idea how!

Ruby puts her hand forward and focuses on a light.

A little lightbulb shoots out of her hand and hits a vase, it breaks and all the water splashes out of it.

Oh shit! Jane yells.

Oh my goodness! Did I just do that?! Ruby exclaims.

Is everything okay over here? I heard glass shattering. Miss Howard asks while she looks around the door.

I'm sorry miss, I accidently stumbled upon the vase and broke it. Jane says.

Oh it doesn't matter, that vase was ugly anyways.

I need to get back to teaching, if you girls would like to clean that up for me I would appreciate that.

Of course miss, is it okay if I go home after I cleaned this up? Ruby asks.

That's fine if you're feeling okay?

I'm good.

Miss Howard walks away.

Pfiew we handled that well. Jane says.

Uh no, you handled that well! You didn't have to lie for me.

What else was I supposed to say? 'Oh yea ruby just shot some light out of her hands and broke that vase!'

No of course not! Ruby laughs.

Let's clean this up, then you can go home. Jane says.
