Dalla's POV
A few days prior
I looked all over the school hallways for Maria. Man, that girl can be challenging to find when someone is looking for her. I finally spotted her when she came out of the cafeteria bathroom. I walked over to her, snatching up her wrist, and dragged her behind me towards a random table with lunch trays on it. I gotta speak fast before other people hear my business.
"Dallas, what are you doing?"
"I gotta talk to you."
She frowns. "And so you drag me across the cafeteria to do so?"
"Look, I have a problem."
"What happened?"
"I like Tin-Can."
"Well, yeah. You've liked her since grade school. What's the problem?"
I ran my hand through my hair. "I don't want her to be Johnny's girl. I want her to be my girl, man!" She straightened her shoulders and looked me over.
"Dal, we agreed there would be no issues for Johnny. You said that yourself when Johnny told us how he felt about her..."
"Man, I know! I know...But I've liked her for so long. Doesn't that give me some sort of advantage?"
"No, because you never acted upon it! You can't say you claim something but never actually claim it. You know what I mean?" She places her hand on my shoulder. "You gave Johnny free range with her."
I looked toward the reddish-brown-haired girl standing in line. Man, she was beautiful.
I ask, "What do I do?"
"You..." She huffs. "I should tell you to respect your friendship with Johnny, but I haven't seen you care so much for a girl before. Aside from me."
"What are you saying then?" I was growing impatient with her beating around the bush. Spit it out!
"It is your friendship with Johnny, but also take her feelings into account. You're not the only party in this decision." Maria was right...I'm running around going based on what I want. I will just have to make Lycanthropy want me if she doesn't already.
"Thanks...you need a weed?"
"I'm okay. I'm going to find Two-Bit." I followed the blonde out of the cafeteria and watched her vanish down the hall. I reached into my pocket for a cigarette when a moment later, Ly came walking out. Perfect.
After taking her out, I was forced to wait for my girlfriend to come back. When she did, she wouldn't shut her trap.
"Why would you take her out and not me?"
I say, "Because she doesn't cheat on me."
"What are you going on about?"
I snap, "You know what I'm talking about! Don't play dumb you damn broad!"
She gasps. "How dare you call me that?"
"Because you're acting like one!" I took a step towards her. "You go around playing with one boy after the other while Ly sits at home reading books and not playing with people."
"So you want a little virgin to corrupt?"
"I ain't gonna do that!"
"Of course you will, because that's what you do!"
I brought my hand across her face. "You shut your trap! We're over, Sylvia. Get outta my face!" She threw my Saint Christopher necklace at my chest and stormed out of the room. She doesn't deserve to wear Christopher anyway. I examined the metal engraving of the religious figure, running my thumbpad over the grooves. I bet it would look real good on Lycanthropy.
Current Day
Man, that girl plays hard to get. I give her the opportunity to shoot, and she won't. What do I gotta do? Maybe this is why Johnny hasn't done anything either. She doesn't make it easy for us. Johnny...He really does like her. How could I be sitting here trying to make moves on her when my best buddy is crushing hard? Every conversation with him turns around to focus on her.
But every time I catch a glimpse of her walking down the hallway, her 50s dress swinging behind her, I can't look away. It wasn't just her ass I was staring at either. Her hair, falling in natural bouncy curls that conformed to the shape of her ponytail, would sway with her joyous bounce and she never lost her balance with her heels. Her floral perfume would trail behind her and that trail would follow me for the rest of the day. Then there were the times she would be standing by her locker, her textbooks resting on her jutted-out hip, as she simultaneously organized her locker.
It ain't fair that Johnny should get full reign of her. I only said yes out of pressure for him to be happy. But what about my happiness? I want a respectable girl as well...one who isn't going to go behind my back with another boy. A girl like Ly whose laugh brightens the entire room. Sometimes I hear her laugh in my dreams.
I did everything to get her flustered today as well...I had to ask God for forgiveness for pushing on her from behind. The prayer wasn't really for me, but for her. For my actions and behavior towards her. I'm definitely going to Hell after this lifetime. Even the big man knows it.
Now, I watched Maria and Ly talk privately at a table. I hope Maria isn't saying anything to Ly. I want to be the one to handle the situation when I see fit. I walked over to the girls, standing on the other side of them. Maria was quiet as Ly was going on about her brothers. It amazes me how they can be so strict with her, but she will talk about them like they're her favorite people. Well, I suppose Ponyboy is.
Maria looked up and gulped, "Dally!" This caught Ly's attention and we stared into each other's eyes for a while. Man, she sure is gorgeous.
"How are you, Dally?" She inquires.
"I'm fine. I just wanted to come to see you both. Mind if I sit?" I point at the empty chair. They both nod and Maria offers me a smile before going back to her food. I wanted to say more to them, but I was short of words.
"I'm going to talk to my brothers about their appearance rules on me. I'm tired of feeling like I'm not a greaser girl." Maria and I watched Tin-Can as she poked her food around her tray.
"You don't need a new look, Ly. You are a greaser at heart," Maria says.
I nod. "You are better looking too. You have a respectable look to you."
"What if I don't want to look like I'm respectable? Maybe I want to look tuff like Maria." Maria and I shared a weary look as the same thought circled us...Ly's good days are coming to an end.

I hope you guys liked this chapter! I'm expecting that this book is going to be pretty long. I have a lot of storylines that I want to cover. But, I also thought of splitting it up into two different stories. Maybe then it will be easier to read and it won't be a book of chaotic plotlines! Hahaha.
As always, stay safe, give yourself a break, and have a good day/afternoon/evening/night! :)
