The year was 1930, and the New Year had just begun in New York City.
"Isn't this fun Antonio?" A female asked, looking around at the rest of the partygoers.
Two twins were seated at a speakeasy. One was a blonde female with light blue eyes, rosy, rouge red cheeks, and a spattering of light freckles. The other was a blonde male with shorter curly hair, deep emerald eyes, and freckles across his face as well, but his were a bit more defined and more sporadic.
Anthony and Molly had just turned twenty, despite there not being much of a celebration for it at home, unless you counted the new dress Molly got from their father.
Anthony tapped the nails of one hand along the table they were sitting at in time to the music swirling around them. His other hand swirled the alcohol in his cup. He looked out to all the couples dancing, laughing, and celebrating, and he couldn't help but smile. "Yeah Molls, this is just swell."
The twins were seated at a wooden table near the dance floor where the couples were, the mini bar just being on the opposite side of the room to them, near the stage. The joint might have been full with the festivities of the New Year, but Molly and Anthony were still within pleasant view of the live band that played on a raised stage towards the front of the room.
Every now and again a band member would leave the set, and take their break, and the other members would somehow fill in the gaps for the missing instrument. It was truly a sight to see and proved how talented the band was. Not that either twin was paying much attention to that.
"I'm sooo glad we were able ta get out fa the night!" Molly continued, on the verge of ranting about how she was starting to feel like a prisoner (again). "I mean it's like Daddy doesn't even trust us!"
Anthony knew that Molly in particular was feeling like a caged animal. While their father didn't like anyone going out without permission, it seemed as though Molly wasn't allowed anywhere. Not unless their father happened to be in a good mood. It's not that he mistreated Molly, no. If anything, she was the only one in the house that got an ounce of respect. No, it was more like their father was overprotective of his only daughter to the point that she wasn't allowed to leave, didn't have many friends, and she couldn't do a damn thing about it, besides sneaking out with her brother.
"I mean it's like he wants me to be a lonely spinsta my whole life," she continued to complain. "Seriously. How's a girl supposed to get a partner if she's never allowed out?" Molly caught her brother's eye with a huff of annoyance, but not at him.
Anthony shrugged and chuckled slightly. "I don't know doll. Ya his little girl and ya always will be. Ya know that an' I know that. S'just the way things are."
Molly crossed her arms over her chest with a 'hmph.' "Well, it ain't fair an' ya damn well know that too! Guess I'll just have to keep sneakin' outta the house when he goes to sleep then."
At that Anthony did laugh. His sister and him always tried to get out of the house at least once a week, if not once every other, so they could go explore, and take some much-needed time to themselves away from their "prison."
"Yeah? Do you plan to sneak off to ya marriage too? How do ya plan to get aroun' that?" he smirked.
Molly gave him a small smile and rolled her eyes, while playfully shoving him. "Oh hush. We'll cross that bridge when we get there! I gotta actually get me someone first."
Anthony just nodded, rolling his eyes back. His sister was something of a hopeless romantic, even though they both knew their father wouldn't let a man get within ten yards of her. Ten miles if he could magically make that happen. However, that didn't stop her from always talking about the chance of falling in love and living happily ever after. Anthony thought himself to be a bit more on the dubious side. Love didn't seem like something he wanted to get involved in or waste his time with. Wasn't like he had much time anyway, what with doing his father's bidding in the Mafia and all.
