Yesterday Anthony got the wildest compulsion to buy Broadway tickets. He couldn't help himself. He was out doing his runs and check-ins and saw the posters plastered along the sides of buildings, as though they had appeared there overnight. A Month in the Country was brand new. It opened two nights ago in fact, and the young man sincerely hoped Alastor would enjoy himself, since Anthony had taken it upon himself to quickly buy two tickets, without giving it much thought. Honestly, he wanted to take advantage of his Pops being out of town and do all the things he wasn't allowed to do when the man was there. It had been years since he saw a theater performance, and after talking about plays with Alastor, it was all the blonde had been wanting to do.
Which was why, in the afternoon when he knew his brother was out, he crept into the office, picked up the phone, and requested that the operator put him through to The Embassy Hotel. Then he requested to speak to Alastor, smirking to himself when he was able to give the person at the desk a last name this time.
He nervously wound the cord around his finger as he listened to the phone ring and ring. Was Alastor even in his hotel? Maybe he had decided to spend some time with Mimsy? Anthony hadn't really thought about the possibility that Alastor might simply be busy today. Just as he was about to hang up, he could hear the receiver on the other end being picked up.
"Hello? Alastor Toussaint speaking."
Anthony breathed a happy sigh, and it crackled in the receiver a bit, which caused him to flush in embarrassment. "Uh, Al, hey! It's me, To-Angel!"
"Well good afternoon my good fellow! Look who finally used the phone," Alastor teased. "To what do I owe the pleasure of your call?"
Anthony grinned. He could listen to this man talk all day. It was even better over the phone because it meant he could daydream about it, and no one would be any the wiser. "Well, I did somethin' a bit crazy."
"Crazy you say?"
"Yup! You remember when we were talkin' about those plays?"
"Yes, if I recall correctly, that was when we first met, right?"
Anthony nodded, though of course Alastor couldn't see it. "Yeah! So anyway, I was out and about yesterday and saw these posters for a new production that came out two days ago. And I mighta bought two tickets." His voice turned shy and quiet. "You uhmm...ya wanna come see it with me? T'night?" He squeezed his eyes shut as he waited for an answer. This was a bad idea, this was a bad idea, this was a bad idea...
The line was silent for a second more until Alastor answered. "That sounds just berries my friend!" he said cheerily. "Shall I meet you at the theater or in our usual meeting spot?"
Anthony couldn't help the large smile that lit up his eyes, or the giddy little dance he did. Realizing Alastor was still waiting for an answer, he cleared his throat and responded, "let's meet at the theater. Play starts at seven. Do ya know how ta get there?" He would've met him at the hotel, but he didn't want to risk the switchboard operator listening in. It probably sounded weird enough with two guys going to see a Broadway show together.
"That all sounds swell Angel. And I do, my band and I rehearse there every week. Splendid place if I do say so myself. All the intricate details throughout the building are so wonderous! I shall see you there!"
"Can't wait, bye Al!" Anthony hung up the phone and pranced in place. Yes! Oh, this was going to be fun! From what he could remember, theaters were always a more intimate setting. It was dark when the show was on, and everyone was packed like sardines. This gave him the perfect opportunity to be closer to the older man! He also didn't mention Mimsy at all, which meant he was choosing to spend his time with the male blonde instead, a fact Anthony couldn't help but to feel triumphant over.
