Chapter 4 // Sorry

'Quick traffic announcement; there's been an accident on Pitt Street, and the road has been closed off. Anyway, back to our broadcast...' The radio blared to us as we sat in a traffic jam.

"Ah, crap!" Jack exclaimed, slapping the steering wheel. "We'll have to take the long way home - gah, we might be late for dinner with Ben!" He started to turn the car around, pulling a manoeuvre that I'm pretty sure's illegal.

We all groaned, me especially. I couldn't take much longer stuck here with Luke. He was still tapping away at his phone, silently, a look of concentration contorting his usually bored face. To make matters worse, the baby began to cry - but was easily hushed by Celeste.

'Now on 2Day FM, our very own Aussie stars 5SOS with hit Heartbreak Girl from their self-titled album.' Luke smirked as my eyes widened in shock. His band was bigger than I thought. As the song started to play, he began to sing along to it. His voice - God, his voice! Because he hadn't prepared for his impromptu car performance, it was roar and full of emotion, but it could still melt chocolate. I began to swing my head along to the beat, as did the rest of the car. I think I even caught the baby doing it at one point.

At the end of the song, we all laughed and relaxed into our seats. "You're, uh, good." I told Luke weakly.

"Well yeah, I'm the lead singer." He rolled his eyes and I clenched my fists. How was I meant to break through his hard exterior?

We pulled into the parking lot, and exited the car, cueing an awkward journey in the elevator. "D'you need help unpacking?" Jack offered. I shook my head.

"I think I'll just be sleeping." And that's exactly what I did as soon as I entered the apartment. Thankfully, the necessities - bed, couch, oven etc - had been installed, so I just washed my face, changed into my pyjamas and collapsed into bed, falling into a deep sleep.

I awoke at 3am, due to the effects of all my coffee. I decided to stay awake - I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep anyway, even if I wanted to. For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to start unpacking, so I started off with my suitcase and by 6:30am I was al unpacked and ready. I hadn't brought lots of belongings - I didn't want to be reminded of my old life anymore. That's precisely why I wanted a new start, another chance at a life that I managed to mess up so badly before.

I took my phone from the dock on my chest of drawers, and tapped out a text as I made my way through to the kitchen.
To; Lizzie 💎
From; Kaya 🔮
Hey! I landed safely & I'm all unpacked. Idk what time it is back home, but FaceTime me when you can. The jet lag hasn't kicked in yet lol :-)
- Kay, xo

Lizzie was my best friend from back home. She was the only person I really cared about leaving behind, because she'd stuck with me all those years and now I was the one who just got up and ran away. But it was my only chance - I had no other choice. She didn't reply right away, so I figured she was asleep or something. Just as I was about to make a cup of coffee, a slip of paper was pushed under my door.

Cautiously, I shuffled towards it, my slippers squeaking on the linoleum floor. My hand shook as I took the note between my fingertips and turned it over.

Kaya,
Sorry I was being such an idiot earlier. Can I make it up to you with coffee tomorrow?
~ Luke :-)

I felt a smile spread across my face. How sweet! I placed the note gently on the counter, like it was made of brittle glass and might break if I handled it wrongly, and took a piece of notepaper from a shelf.

Luke,
Sure. Yours at 11?
- Kaya :-)

A/N: Aww! But surely it can't be that easy, can it? ;)
