What was supposed to be two days of rest and of work ended up with me being dragged by an overenthusiastic Rachel to the nearest mall. Basically, when I told her that Harry, Sarah ,and Mitch were coming to our house for dinner on Saturday, she literally squealed with excitement! And she made us create a menu right away, which started a huge confusion between the two of us.

----

"So we need several starters, a main course of meat and another vegetarian, and at least two desserts. We need to buy wine, juices, and ingredients for you to make gin." Rachel said, writing notes in her notebook.

"Why do we need two different main courses?" I asked.

"So Harry doesn't eat meat and I feel like giving everyone the vegetarian option is limiting," she replied as if it were obvious.

"What do you mean, Harry doesn't eat meat? Who told you that?", I asked shocked.

"The internet, obviously," she looked at me like I had 3 heads.

"But just the other day when we went to dinner he had a steak...", I said remembering the dinner at Sarah's house.

"Harmony, the internet said, and I believe it."

"I'll text him," I said, sighing.

----

And that's how I ended up concluding that Harry doesn't really eat meat and that day he ate a cauliflower steak, and I had no idea! If it weren't for my friend's obsession, I would serve meat to someone who doesn't eat meat! From there, I let her make most of the decisions. I only banned absurd things, like her wanting to buy new curtains to match the napkins (?).

I apologized infinitely to Harry and he just laughed, finding my embarrassment hilarious. We've been talking a lot via text, even because I demanded that he answer basic questions about him so that the same thing doesn't happen again.

He also sent me the official invitation to his birthday yesterday, which created another existential problem which is: What do you offer a person who already has everything? But that's a problem for me a week from now.

Now, the problem for Rachel, and consequently for me, is whether it makes more sense to buy cloth napkins or keep the paper ones.

"Rachy, what do you think about taking these lighter ones that go with anything?", I said in an attempt to get through it.

"I think it could be okay... because then we have to go see the clothes we're going to wear for dinner, I only have time to go shopping today... because on Friday we have to go to the supermarket!", she says stressed.

"Clothes?", I say in disbelief, "Are you going to buy clothes on purpose for this?".

"Me? No... Us? Yes!", she replies with a huge smile on her face.

After walking in and out of two different clothing stores without buying anything, I just want to give up on my day.

"Rach, how am I supposed to get an outfit for Harry's birthday when I can't even get one for dinner at my house?", I ask with a sigh.
