Junior High was supposed to be new and exciting, even if she was at a new school in a new town.
She was only one month in and hated it. It wasn't the school work, or the change in classes, and she made friends. She was on the volleyball team, and was having fun with that.
"Kaya...you're awfully quite tonight" her mom notice. Well not her real mom.
"Yeah normally you're the most talkative at dinner...Sasha's too busy eating" her dad said, taking a bite of his pork chop.
"I'm fine, just a bit tired from volleyball" Kaya said quietly. "Coach Isabel can be a bit tough"
"Are you having fun though?" Sasha asked.
"Sasha don't talk with your mouthful, goodness I hope you don't do that in front of Connie's parents" Lisa said shooting a look to Sasha.
Sasha ignored her mom's question. "There's no point in playing if you aren't having fun. If I didn't like field hockey, basketball, and soccer I wouldn't play"
"Yeah I love volleyball, school is just a bit stressful"
"Wait until you hit high school"
Kaya couldn't help but smile.
"Adjusting to junior high can be hard, Sasha had a hard time in junior high too" Artur reached over and patted Kaya's hand. "You are also going through something that most kids your age"
Her adoptive dad was right. If you looked at family photos, you would notice that Kaya was the odd blonde out of a family of brown hair and brown eyes.
About 6 years ago, when Kaya was six her parents were killed in a car crash. Not having any other family, she was taken in by her godparents. It was a lot moving across 2 states, but Lisa and her mom had been close friends since childhood.
Kaya was so surprised just how welcoming they were. At the time Sasha had just turned 9, and to Sasha, Kaya was instant family.
Her big sis was her best friend, and she was surprised that even now the pair rarely fought. When Kaya would have bad dreams about her parents, Sasha would always let her sleep in her bed, or they would sneak into the kitchen for a late night snack.
Sasha frowned, "Dad I don't wanna talk about middle school"
Middle school was a sensitive topic for Sasha. Being the goofy girl that hit her growth spurt early, and could easily eat any guy under the table had made her a target.
It was one of the reasons they had moved to Trost from Dauper. They wanted Sasha to go to a new high school, but a lot of it had to do with her dad's farm equipment company taking off, and the Blaus family opening up horse stables.
"I promise, everything is fine" she took a bite of her yeast roll plastering a fake smile.

Kaya sat at her desk, trying to make sense of the math problem in front of her.
"Who would even buy 20 watermelons?" She thought to her self.
As if on cue her sister walked into her room. Her hair still wet from her shower, she landed face first on her bed. She said something but her voice was muffled by the duvet.
"Roll over dummy" Kaya said giggling.
"So something is definitely up...what's going on?"
"I said I'm fine."
"Kaya you may be able to fool mom and dad, but your can't fool me, I can read you like a book" Sasha said throwing a stuffed animal at her.
Kaya pushed back from her desk, and spun around to her sister.
