We finished our job till the end of the night, as Sally and I headed towards the skeleton.
"Jack we are done!" said Sally, yawning loud.
"I am tired, let's get back to Doc" I said, stretching my arms.
The only one that didn't look tired at all was Jack; we looked excited, "Okay let us get home!" He grabbed my wrist and pulled me along, until we had past the doc's house. I pulled on the skeleton to get his attention, "Jack my home is this way." Suddenly, he smiled a little awkward, while his free hand scratched the back of his neck, "Well you see N/A, you are living with me now. I asked the doctor about you and he has no need for you."
"Eh???"
I looked at Sally and then at Jack, "I...I..."
"Don't worry, you will like my home" I was concerned at his big smile, as he grabbed my hand again and dragged me along.
"No, I don't want to I...Sally...Sally!" she could only look back at me, waving goodbye. Wishing me a quiet 'good luck'.
Oh boy, now I am alone with the pumpkin king, I hope it goes well!
His home was a place, crawling in thick dust. I had a hard time to breathe once inside; a dead person has no problem to live like that. Luckily he is! It was perfect for a single skeleton like him. It has high walls and was decorated... with Christmas stuff? "What is this about?" I asked him, pointing at the Christmas tree in the corner. "Oh this...eh...nothing important, you can remove them tomorrow."
He placed a mattress near his bed and handed me a blanket, pillow and a nightgown of his. "You can start in the morning, for now you should get some rest."
I looked around the place.
"And I have to sleep here?" I said pointing to the mattress. "Well of course, they say, to get used to a new home you should sleep near someone and besides, I have no spare room left."
I have no idea where he gets this kind of wisdom; anyhow I was too tired to care and just nodded.
"Okay? Where can I get dressed?" He raised his index finger towards the nearest door.
Once inside, I inspected my face in the mirror. I feared that the makeup will get off when I sleep. But at the same time I looked at myself, fascinated of what I see. I have a very pale face, with a few stitches here and there. My hair all messy and my clothes a file of shreds, sewed on together. I took it off and put on Jack's nightgown. It was too large for me, so I knotted a few areas to get it off the ground.
Outside was Jack already in his PJ and night hat, reading something. He looked up, once I closed the door, "Ah N/A come here I got something to show you."
I sat on my mattress, coughing at the dust that came off it, before directing my attention to the skeleton. He handed me a few pieces of paper, "What do you think of those candidates?" I looked at the book he was reading...it was the laws of Halloween Town.
"The mayor was right; if Oogie gets to be the new ruler of Halloween Town then we are all in trouble."
"Who is this Oogie Boogie?" I asked, not knowing of his role in this place.
Jack has raised his voice in shock at my question, "Oogie? He is the meanest and the most horrible person in all Halloween town. No one wants to be near him...well...except his henchman, the trick-or-treaters kids."
Somehow, it reminded me of something, "Do they wear a witch, devil and skeleton mask?"
Jack was impressed, "Indeed, how do you know?"
"I met then in the forest; there are three devils more like. What were there names...eh...Locky...Shocky...ah...and bucket."
"Close...Lock, Shock and Barrel. My advice to you, don't interfere with them. They would do anything for that sack of bugs." "Okay...Good night Jack", I pulled curled up myself under the sheets, as suddenly something hard touched my head, "Good night N/A...sweet nightmares."
No need to, I am already in one!
