I can't help but curse at everything

I can't help but curse at everything. I should be attending the team meeting for the testing of the prototype of the new exhaust systems. It took us months to get the approvals. We were exhilarated to check the optimization on those things, but here I am sighing a bunch of paper because my father is too busy to attend the new investors' meeting.

I let out a heavy sigh, touching my forehead. At times, it can get too exhausting to manage both. But there was nothing I could do. It was meant to be this way. It was already decided that I would take over my dad's business empire, whether I liked it or not. The throne was mine to rule, which he created by risking it all. This was my legacy.

"Mr. Vincent?" Jeffrey, my father's assistant, knocks at the door. "The contracts you need to sign before the meeting." I nod and give him my permission to come in.

Jeffrey put the papers on my desk. "Everything required is prepared for the meeting. It begins at 11 sharp. " I focus my attention on the documents while Jeffrey gives me a quick briefing of the meeting.

I looked at my phone to see five calls from May from the lab and a text from Acacia. I can't fight the smile that's appearing on my face. Jeffrey no longer has my attention. Arabella Acacia Martin was so hauntingly beautiful. Her hazel eyes bore all the innocence in the world. Unlike other socialites in our circle, she was different. She was flawless. She was the future heiress of the Martin empire.

The Martins came from old money. Henry Theodore Martin inherited it from his father and took it to the top. Initially, it was Asher Martin, who was meant to inherit it, but he gave it up by becoming a surgeon. He will be taking over the hospitals, whereas the business world was hers to rule. And now she's back.

I can't resolve the fascination that drew me toward her. I can't believe I just texted her that day, but how can I not? She just left everything, everyone, and no one knew. The one person who knew something would rather die than tell me where she was.

Savannah's voice broke me out of my trance. "Baby, are you even listening to me?" I think she was talking about some party. We have been together for almost two years now. The adjective "together" rather seems incongruous, the word "arrangement" would be relatively fitting. I am not even sure why I would agree to do something so absurd, but she needs this relationship. Only children who belong to elite families can go to Las regalías. Savannah got in by taking an exam through our foundation, where her father is an employee. However, there was a condition. She had to keep her grades up, and if she fails to do so, the academy could expel her right away. Her only way to avoid it was through a connection with the Vincents. That's where I came into the picture. She begged me for a favor to help maintain her spot at Las regalías. Although if it wasn't for her father I would have denied it instantly. Adam Hales has been working for us since I can remember. He's a hard-working and loyal person who works his ass off to provide for his family. He didn't deserve this.

While we were waiting for our food, I decided to check my mail. I was supposed to get my college acceptance letter today. I looked at the phone screen and saw fifty missed calls from Kevin. I called him back immediately.

"Dude, where are you?" He was practically yelling at me.

"I have been calling you for hours now." He added.

"Yeah, I didn't notice. My phone was on silent," I reply.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Bella is leaving today." I was confused, leaving. Where?

"What do you mean?" I asked again.

"I mean, Bella is leaving Canada,"

"What?"

"Where?" I asked him.

"No one knows."

"When?"

"Elena called us. She must have left already. "

I rushed out of the restaurant, got into my car, and drove to her house. I don't understand why she is leaving. Did something happen with her family. She has her whole life here. She didn't even graduate from high school, for fuck sake. My heart was pounding so hard that I begged all the gods to let me catch her before she left.

I almost hit the concrete that surrounded the outdoor fountain before applying the brakes. I don't even care if I hit my car. I sprinted out of the car towards Asher, who was on his phone.

"Where is she?" I asked, the desperation in my tone so evident.

"She left." He said, with both of his hands resting in his pockets.

"Where?"

"You, of all people, don't deserve to know."

I didn't know how I felt about her. I knew I had no rights. But I had to know. There were times when I wondered if maybe it was for the better because it was getting hard to pretend not to care, it was getting hard just seeing her happy with the other guys, it was getting hard just being a shadow watching her, it was getting hard not to be with her.

But I had to know, she was mine to protect.
