I've never believed in destiny

I've never believed in destiny. It was never two people crossing paths because it was intended to be, for me. My faith relied on coincidence, determination, and dedication. If I happened to cross paths with someone, I'd do everything in my power to be with them. That changed when I realized what Elena meant to me. Destiny suddenly made sense. It was as though our friendship was destined to be together forever, written in the stars. Whenever things became overwhelming and words couldn't express what my heart was feeling. I'd run to her and cry my heart out, and she'd hug me while stroking my hair, no questions asked. We were inseparable at school. Everyone thought we'd grow out of this phase, but unfortunately for them, we never did. I'd be characterized as a passive who could never say no while she was someone who made sure everyone saw the harsh truth. Yet somehow we made sense.

I made friends with Savannah in seventh grade because I felt sorry for her as she had recently moved. Elena never liked her, but never complained because I was happy and eventually started warming up to her. it worked out for the best as she was just like us, different. However, nothing seemed to last as long as I'd hoped. Everything changed, everyone changed. Everyone except one person. she was my person for life. she was my savior. My best friend. My soul sister. Elena.

"I can't help you until you let me in," I say softly while he was having an internal battle with himself.

"You will never understand."

"You will never know that till you try."

He let out a sign before he began. "That day, I and sean got into a big fight. I was sick of seeing him bruised up and him making false promises again and again that he is going to stop it."

"what was he going to stop?"

"Sean used to work as a delivery guy. He used to get calls telling him where to pick up and who to deliver it to." I didn't bother asking him what he delivered. Alex's hesitant voice gave it away.

"He said this was the biggest deal they had ever gotten and he would get a hefty commission. His boss promised him that he could quit. It was convincing yet I didn't quite believe him so I followed him. It was behind an old school building. The place was a wide empty area, so I had to hide a bit far away behind an abandoned car."

"They were four guys who were a couple of years older than us. They were having an argument. I didn't find it suspicious since Sean would always be telling me incidents about how they would not want to give the promised amount and then his 'boss' would get furious at him and then take that amount from his promised portion."

"It all happened too fast." He took a deep breath before continuing, "one moment it was a small spat and the next moment one of the guys jab a knife in his abdomen."

"My entire body went cold. Until I realized what was happening they had already fled the scene. I screamed for help, but it was too late by the time it arrived." His eyes were filled with silent tears.
