long, fluff filled chapter ahead.
It had been a week since the assassins were dealt with, and Kaeya had hardly seen Albedo.
After Kaeya had left the safe room, he had interrogated the few surviving assassins, and found out what he had been dreading. The assassins had been sent not targeting Kaeya; but targeting Albedo. They heard from an inside spy that the soon to be second King was more tactful than the first, and sent assassins after him.
It filled Kaeya with pride knowing that he had found someone to share the throne with that intimidated other nations this much, but it also worried him. What if the assassins succeeded one day?
Kaeya didn't even want to think about that possibility.
Kaeya had found the spy that told Sneznaya about Albedo, and dealt with them accordingly.
Kaeya had planned to tell Albedo about everything right away, but when he went back to their chambers, he wasn't there. Throughout the week, Albedo was nowhere to be found, and when Kaeya would see him, Albedo would run away before Kaeya could say a word to him.
Kaeya would wake up in the middle of the night to see if Albedo was in bed, but he never was. Kaeya even checked the couch; but came up empty every time. This raised the question of where Albedo was sleeping every night.
He was starting to get worried, but figured Albedo just needed space after everything that happened. And so, he decided to stop looking for him on the 7th day.
----
Albedo was in the garden checking on the Invteyvats when he heard someone clearing their throat behind him. He turned around, holding a bouquet close to his chest.
"Hello, Halfdan. Did you need something?" Albedo asked, innocently looking up at the taller man.
Halfdan looked away from Albedo, unable to meet his eyes out of embarrassment, even though he had nothing embarrassing to say, "Apologies, Sir Albedo. I just wanted to let you know that the invitations for your coronation have been sent to Miss Alice, the rulers of Fontaine, and the rulers of Sumeru. I have also been informing palace staff, I'm sure news will get around fast."
During the week that Albedo had been avoiding Kaeya (though, he'd deny it if you asked him about it), he had been making a lot of coronation preparations with Halfdan. The two had also been getting closer during the preparations.
"Thank you, is there anything else you need?" Albedo asked, focusing more on picking through his bouquet than the conversation.
Halfdan looked Albedo up and down, a smirk appeared, as well as a glint in his eye that Albedo had never seen before on anyone, "Well, I was just curious, but-"
"Is this where you've been hiding, dearest?" Kaeya asked, strolling into the garden and wrapping his arm around Albedo's shoulders.
"You could say that", Albedo hummed, seemingly completely oblivious to Kaeya glaring daggers at Halfdan.
"Those Inteyvats look lovely, did you just pick them?" Kaeya asked, softening his gaze when he looked at his husband.
Halfdan awkwardly averted his gaze and started to walk away, hoping to go unnoticed, but unfortunately for him, that didn't happen.
"Goodbye, Halfdan. Perhaps you can ask me what you wanted to ask another time?" Albedo said, completely oblivious, before turning back to Kaeya, "also yes, I did just pick these."
