Chapter Six

A week has gone past and it was my date with Daniel. I brushed my teeth and I got ready. I went downstairs and my parents were gone. Mia was home. Me and her ate breakfast.
"So today you have that date right?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"Well you're lucky. Mom just went on a business trip and dad left again. I think he's going to Ruben's or maybe Frank's."
"Oh okay. So does that mean I can be out late?"
"Pfft as if. I'm in charge and you have a curfew. I don't want you to get hurt."
"That's not fair. You don't have a curfew."
"I know but I don't want you to become a failure like me. Your curfew isn't that bad. I want you home before midnight. Got that?"
"Okay. I'm good with that. And Mia it isn't too late to change. I don't think you're a failure."
I finished my breakfast and I washed my dishes. I walked out the door and started walking to school but Mia stopped me.
"I'm taking you to school. You think I haven't noticed the pins on your clothes. You're losing weight really fast. Get in."
I got into her car. She started driving me to school. When did she become mature? What happened? Did she break up with Brandon? If she did, I hope she's okay. We got to my school and I hugged her.
"Thank you. Bye I'll see you later. Love you."
"Love you too."
I walked into campus and I talked with Julie and Rose. The school day went on. Nothing interesting happened. I kept thinking about Daniel and about us being together. Would he ever ask me to sleep with him then the next day he leaves if I'm not good enough for him? I hope he isn't like that. I want him to be a good guy.

I walked out of school and I started walking home. I didn't expect Mia to drive me home. She's in class right now and she can't pick me up. I understood, so I walked home. I saw him. Brian was near me on the way home. He looked at me strangely. I walked faster. I got scared so I started running. I ran until I got home. I felt safe when I was home.
I went upstairs to take a shower. I felt sticky. I took a shower and put on a face mask to look good. I want to show Daniel the best me. I got a text from him.

Daniel:
Hey, I can't wait for our date. I'm picking you up at 7 at your house. Wear something fun but comfortable.

Me:
Hey I can't wait either. Where are we going?

Daniel:
That's a surprise. You'll see when I pick you up

Me:
But I want to know now :(

Daniel:
Aw don't be sad. You'll know soon enough

Me:
Rude

Daniel:
No I'm not, I just want to surprise you pretty girl

Me:
Fine I won't ask

Daniel:
Okay I'll leave you to get ready

Me:
Okay see you soon♡

Daniel:
See you soon♡

I got ready. Thank god the sweater I got is comfortable. I put on my new outfit and I put on my white shoes. I put my hair in a half up half down braided hairstyle. I did my makeup. I only put on light makeup. I waited for Daniel to show up so I needed to make sure I had everything.
Chapstick? Check.
Mints? Check.
Phone? Check.
Money? Check.
I was ready so I grabbed my jacket. I waited by the door for Daniel to show up. It was 6:58 and he hadn't shown up. I waited for him. I wasn't going to freak out if he didn't get here early. At exactly 7:00 he showed up. He walked up to the door and knocked. Mia answered. Daniel looked so attractive. He was wearing a "loose" fitted blue sweater that made him look good. He was also wearing dark wash jeans with white shoes. We were matching and we didn't even plan it.
"Hello. You must be Daniel."
"Hello, yes I am. Are you Mia?"
"Yes I am. I want you to be careful with my sister. She has to be home before midnight. Oh and no sex unless you're using condoms. I don't want to be an aunt just yet." After Mia spoke I saw Daniel turn bright red.
"Uh yes understood. I brought you these." Daniel pulled out a bouquet of flowers and looked at me.
"Oh thank you." I said blushing.
"Anything for you." I placed the flowers down and I walked out with him.
"Have fun and be safe."
"Okay Bye."
"Bye. Don't worry if dad comes home I'll tell him that you went somewhere with Rose and Julie."
"Thank you."
Daniel opened the car door for me and I stepped in. We sat in the car and I tried to touch his hand. He was hesitant at first but he let me. We were holding hands a minute after. I felt a slight blush show up on my face.
After 10 minutes we showed up at a carnival. It was bright and colorful. It looked like something out of a movie. He held my hand and looked at me.
"Do you want to eat something or should we just get something inside?"
"Well it's cheaper to eat outside than it is to eat inside. Can we eat outside?"
"Yeah sure. Anywhere you want to go in particular?"
"What about McDonalds?"
"Yeah, it sounds great."
We walked to McDonalds and ordered some food on the tablets. I looked around and caught a glimpse of Daniel staring at me sweetly. He smiled at me and I smiled back. We waited for our order to come out. I got the same as Daniel because I didn't know what to get. It was actually good. We finished. Well he finished, I only ate half. We walked back to the carnival.
"So I noticed we were wearing the same outfit. I think you look better in it though."
"Yeah I noticed that too. But no way you look better in it. I don't know if it's because of your hair or your build but you look better."
"Do I look like a movie star or something?"
"Yeah, totally sure. Leonardo Dicaprio would be jealous."
"I feel a bit of sarcasm in that comment."
We laughed and I just loved Daniel's laugh. It sounded funny to me but I also enjoyed it. It's a weird kind of attraction to it.
We walked in and we went to the games first. We played at a water gun game and I totally beat Daniel.
"What prize do you want to miss?"
"Can I get the red llama?"
"One red llama for the pretty lady in blue."
"Thank you."
I grabbed my llama and walked up to Daniel. We walked towards another game.
"So what are you going to call the llama.?"
"I'm going to call him Daniel. It's fitting because of when my sister mentioned sex you turned red."
"Hey I'm just not trying to rush you to do anything and it's too early to be doing that." He panicked and rushed his words
"Hmm I respect that. Thank you but I'm still calling him Daniel."
He scoffed and we both laughed. We walked past a stand and I saw a really cute panda plush that I really wanted. I pulled at Daniel's sleeve to get his attention. I pointed to it.
"Can you get it for me? Please. I really want it."
"Okay only because you're cute."
"Oh so you think I'm cute?"
"No, I mean yes. I mean I think you're cute but that's not the reason why I like you. Of course I don't care for looks but obviously it helped. Oh my god. I'm just going to shut up now before I embarrass myself."
I laughed at him.
"It's okay. I was just messing with you. Frankly I feel the same way about you."
He played the game and he lost. He looked kind of sad that he lost. It was okay.
"I'm sorry I lost. I'll play again. I'll get it for you."
"No it's okay. It's the thought that matters. Thank you anyways."
Even after what I said Daniel played again he won this time and he got the panda plush.
"One panda plush for my cutie."
"Thank you." I giggled.
We walked around and it was getting late so we went outside. It was 10:30 pm so we decided to get an ice cream together. We grabbed an ice cream and we sat down. I had 3 plushies from the carnival. One llama, one panda, and one little elephant. They were all sitting next to me. We finished our ice cream and he drove me home.
When I got home it was 11:30 pm. He walked me to my door but before I could go in he stopped me.
"Katelyn. I had fun today. I know we've only known each other for only a few months but I really like you. You make me happy. I like everything about you from the way you smile at me to your long brown hair. I feel like I'm floating on clouds when I'm with you. You probably won't feel the same way but do you want to be my girlfriend?"
"Are you kidding me Daniel? Of course I'll be your girlfriend."
We hugged and I kissed him. We broke off the kiss and I walked inside.
"Here I want you to have this." I smiled at him.
I handed him the elephant plushie but he gave it back.
"No, you keep it. It's yours." He smiled at me
"I want you to keep it. Something to remember me by until next time."
"I think I'll remember you by that kiss but I'll keep the plush if it makes you happy."
We laughed.
I pulled him in for another kiss, making him freeze.
"Goodnight Daniel."
He stood there and spoke "Wait um o really hope you had fun."
"Of course I did I'll see you soon okay?"
"Goodnight Katelyn."
I closed the door and I immediately melted and slid down the door. Mia saw me.
"What happened?"
"He asked me to be his girlfriend. "
"Do you say yes?"
"Of course I did."
"Oh I'm so happy for you."
Mia hugged me. I was so happy. I really liked Daniel and now he was my boyfriend. My luck was finally changing. I grabbed the flowers Daniel got me. I went upstairs and changed into my pajamas. I took out my contacts and put my glasses on. I laid down on my bed and took out my hair. I opened my phone and looked at Instagram.
I came across a picture of me. It was from Daniel's account. He took a picture of me and posted it. It looked nice. No wonder he likes photography. He was good at it. The caption got me. It said She makes me happy. I'm grateful to call her mine ♡
I smiled at the corny caption and typed Happy to call you mine too but you're so cringey. I kept scrolling through my feed until I got called down by Mia. I walked down. I saw her sitting down and dad was home. I immediately got scared. Did he find out about Daniel? I hope not.
"Katelyn, sit down please."
I sat down because I thought I might as well obey him so he wouldn't be as mad when he yells at me.
"I have you here to talk about your mother and I. I want you to know that it's not your fault, it's ours. We got into a relationship even though we weren't happy. I'm sorry, but we're getting a divorce."
"Wait but you guys were just fine like a couple of days ago. What happened?"
"Honey we can have our good days but that's very rare. She's getting the house and custody of you. That's what we decided. I'm sorry. I wish I could've done something, but all of that is too late."
"I need time to think about it. I want to be alone for now."
I walked up to my room and locked the door. I wasn't hurt at all. I already knew they would be getting divorced. I sat down and tied up my hair. I took out my sketchbook and I started drawing. I didn't know what I was drawing until I finished. I drew Daniel. It looked like him. I smiled and hid my sketchbook back in its place. Nobody knew I had a sketchbook because they would bug me about drawing all the time.
I must really like Daniel. I'm happy he asked me to be his girlfriend. Oh shit I just remembered I need to get his birthday gift. I have to go sometime next week before I start getting busy. I want it to be perfect. I decided to go to sleep.. I laid down but I couldn't sleep. I kept tossing and turning until I fell asleep.
