Chapter Ten

It's Friday. And it's me and Daniel's four month anniversary. It was after school and I got ready for our date. I was wearing a dark green sweater with black pants and black ankle boots. I waited for him to show up and I got in his car. He drove me to Angelo's.
"Babe. What are we doing here?"
"It's the place we went on our first date. I wanted to come back to celebrate with you."
"Aw that's sweet."
We went inside Angelo's. I ordered the same thing as last time and Daniel did too. We ate dinner and we went outside. He took me to an art museum. He was being cheesy the whole time.
"You're the most beautiful piece of art here."
"Oh Pfft shut up Daniel."
I giggled and he grabbed my hand. We walked through the whole museum and looked at it. I got some catcalls from some guys there and Daniel got a little upset. It's nice to see he's protective. He pulled me closer to him.
"Hey Daniel. Why did you bring me to an art museum?"
"I know how much you like to draw so I brought you."
"Wait, I've never told you about that."
"You didn't have to. I might have maybe looked at your art when you were in the bathroom once. That drawing you drew of me is so realistic."
I started blushing. He saw my drawings. Then that means he saw my drawings of us. We continued our date as we grabbed some hot cocoa. We walked through the park and we sat down on a bench. We started laughing at each other. We got up and we went to a nearby bridge. We looked at the sky and I saw a shooting star.
"Daniel, look, a shooting star, make a wish."
We both closed our eyes and started wishing. I opened my eyes and Daniel was looking at me. I feel flustered now.
"What did you wish for Daniel?"
"Nothing, I have everything I want standing right here next to me."
"Aw Daniel."
"What did you wish for?"
"I wished for us to stay together and be happy."
"Well don't worry I will never leave you."
Daniel and I walked around for a while. He took me home and he walked me to my doorstep. I opened my front door and I said goodbye to him. I was about to close my door when Daniel called for me.
"Katelyn! Wait!"
"What?"
He leaned in and kissed me. I kissed him back.
"Goodnight Katelyn."
"Goodnight Daniel."

It's been a week since the situation happened and it was Daniel's birthday and I went to his house. I was wearing a light blue  knee length dress with white shoes on and a white cardigan. I knocked on the door and his mom answered.
"Hi Katelyn. How are you? Come in."
"Hi Mrs.Thomas. I'm good, how are you?"
"I'm great honey. I'm so happy you're here. And I've told you to call me Ana."
"Sorry Ana, I'm just so used to being formal."
I went and sat down on the couch. It's weird because Daniel's family doesn't take off their shoes in the house. Daniel's brother came up to me.
"Are you still with my nerdy brother? Why not go out with me?"
"Sorry Michael but I don't date guys younger than me."
"Hmm we'll see about that."
"Oh Michael leave Katelyn alone."
Ana called Daniel down and I saw him come down.
"Happy birthday Daniel."
"Thank you Katelyn."
Daniel hugged me and I kissed him. I gave him his gift.
"Thank you."
"You look nice Daniel."
"You do too."
We went up to his room. I sat down on his bed and he sat down on his bean bag. I looked at him while he looked at me.
"Can I open my gift right now?"
"Yeah go for it. I hope you like it."
He started opening his gift and I saw a smile come across his face. He got up and hugged me.
"Thank you Katelyn. I love it. It must have been expensive. You didn't have to worry, a small gift would've been fine."
"Don't be silly, I wanted to. I wanted the perfect gift for my boyfriend. Happy birthday babe."
Daniel kissed me and pushed me against the wall holding me gently by my waist and his other hand on my cheek, he turned us around and placed me on his bed. He started getting on top of me and when I lifted my knees to try and scoot back, I didn't notice my dress going up. My thighs were exposed and Daniel noticed. At first he was flustered. Then he got serious which scared me. He grabbed my thigh aggressively.
"Katelyn, what's this?"
I quickly sat up and fixed my dress.
"It's nothing. Don't worry about it."
"Katelyn. Don't lie to me. Now tell me when did you do this to yourself
"It was last week. Something bad happened and I felt terrible about it. I'm sorry."
I looked down. I felt Daniel looking at me in disappointment.
"Why? Katelyn looked at me. Why did you do it?" he said, getting upset and raising his voice at me.
"I'm sorry Daniel. I really am but I can't tell you what happened."
"What happened? Tell me. Did you get drunk?"
"No."
"Did you get high?"
"No"
"Did you get in trouble?"
"No"
"Did you have sex with someone? Did you cheat on me?"
I couldn't look at him. I felt terrible for him having to find out like this.
"So you cheated on me. Wow. Okay. Why? Why did you do it? I thought we were getting serious."
I looked away as I wiped my tears. I could hear Daniel's voice cracking. I hated seeing Daniel cry.
"Well answer me Katelyn! Why did you do it?" He said in an almost screaming voice." You can't even answer me. I should've never trusted you."
"I didn't. I didn't cheat on you but that doesn't mean I didn't have sex with someone else."
"What do you mean by that?"
"Nothing. It's not important."
"God just get out, I can't even look at you."
"Daniel, wait please let me explain."
I reached for his hand but he pulled back. He raised it, making me think he was going to hit me.
"I said get out!"
I flinched and I started crying. Daniel never raised his voice at me and I got scared. It wasn't like him to get mad.
"Look Daniel, why would I cheat on you? I have never given you any reason as to why I would cheat on you or leave you. I love you. Just let me tell you what happen-"
He cut me off.
"No I don't want to hear your sorry ass excuse Katelyn. I have waited for you because I knew you weren't ready and that it was too early for us to start having sex. And don't play with my emotions. I know you don't love me so just fucking lea-"
"I was raped! Okay. I was raped Daniel. I didn't cheat on you."
I looked at Daniel and he looked at me in disbelief. I broke down crying. I can't believe I just told Daniel. I feel terrible.
"Katelyn. I'm so sorry. I'm such an asshole."
"It's not your fault. You didn't do anything."
"I didn't do anything. Now tell me who this motherfucker is. I'm gonna beat the shit out of him for doing that to you and making you feel this way."
"No Daniel. I can't."
"Why not?"
"I just can't. It doesn't matter if I get through it once I can get through it again."
"It's happened before? Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't want you to see me differently and I was scared of something happening."
Daniel pulled me into his embrace. I was crying. No, I was sobbing. I felt terrible.
"This is probably your worst birthday. I'm sorry I ruined it."
"No it's not. It's a good one because I get to spend time with the people I love. I mean you only turn 18 once so might as well make it memorable."
I smiled at him. He was being so understanding and kind towards me, I think that's why I love him. He hugged me and I felt myself smile. I decided to tell him the whole story. He deserved to know. He's my boyfriend.
"I was raped for the first time when I was 10. I was alone in the park playing by myself on the swings and this man came up to me telling me his dog needed help. I stupidly followed him. He raped me in his car. He told me to never tell anyone what happened. After that happened I started hurting myself. The second time, which was last week, I was shopping for your gift and my friend's boyfriend started talking to me and asked for help finding something for his girlfriend. He then started hitting on me and he took me into the bathroom and raped me. He told me not to tell anyone. He used to harass me before but I never said anything and well I now see I should've."
"Oh Katelyn. Princess. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I'm here for you and I always will be. I care about you. I want you to be safe."
He hugged me and we stayed like that for a while then I pulled back and he sat on his bed. I sat on top of his lap and leaned closer to his face. He put his hand on my cheek and started to caress my cheek. He brought my face closer to his. I could feel his breath on my lips. He slowly kissed me. It was passionate. He deepened the kiss, grabbing the back of my head and pushing it into his face.. He leaned back and I leaned forward. I was now on top of him. I was kissing him and I went to his neck.
"Woah. I don't think a hickey would be easy to explain to my parents."
We got up and continued kissing. I pulled away from him and looked deep into his eyes.
"Daniel, I love you." He stared at me sort of shocked and didn't say anything. Did I mess up? Was it wrong for me to say it? We were standing in the middle of the room when his mom knocked on the door. We quickly fixed ourselves.
"Daniel come downstairs and we're about to cut the cake."
"Yeah coming mom."
We started laughing at the fact we almost got caught making out. We went downstairs. We cut the cake.
"I hope you like the cake. I spent all day trying to make it."
"Mom you didn't have to but thank you. I am very proud to have a mother like you."
"Ana, it looks amazing. Ever thought of opening up a little shop?"
"Thank you Katelyn but I wouldn't have the time to. Especially with these two."
"Oh come on mom, we're not that bad."
"Okay I admit you aren't."
Daniel's mom cut the cake and we started to eat it. It was amazing.
"Ana, this is an amazing cake. It's so good."
"Thank you Katelyn. I just wanted to make Daniel's eighteenth birthday special."
"Thanks mom. You have made it incredibly special by just birthing me. And well with Katelyn here with us, it just puts the only important women in my life in one room."
"Mr.Thomas, you're awfully quiet."
"Sorry I was just observing. I've noticed that when you get affection you usually bounce a bit. And you are also a very intelligent girl so it's a bit hard to understand why you would want to date Daniel."
"Oh I didn't know that I did that. As for the Daniel part. Well he's an incredibly amazing person.  He looks after me and is always there for me. Don't get me wrong, sometimes he can be a big flirt but I don't mind it."
"I see. I just think that such a beautiful, smart, and kind girl would want someone else."
"Thank you but I'm really happy with Daniel."
We continued eating the cake and it got all silent. I saw Daniel looking annoyed but I think it was because of his dad so I didn't say anything about it. Daniel's family seems nice. I don't get why he doesn't bring me over more often. I guess it's not convenient for him.
"Katelyn are you done?"
"Oh yes, let me just go take care of this plate."
"Katelyn sweetie you can just leave it in the sink. I'll take care of it later."
"Are you sure? Because it's no hassle for me."
"Yes I'm sure."
"Oh okay. Well it was nice to see you all again. Thank you for having me over. I'll see you all soon."
"Yeah, anytime Katelyn. Feel free to come over whenever you like."
"Yes, I will do it."
"Bye you guys."
"Bye Katelyn."
Daniel got me one of his hoodies to wear as it was extremely cold outside. Daniel drove me home. I enjoyed being with Daniel.
"So Katelyn can we talk about what you said in my room? Do you really love me?"
"Yes Daniel. I do."
"I don't know what to say. It's something scary. Love."
"Yeah."
"Well goodnight Katelyn."
He didn't say I love you back. Did I make a mistake? He doesn't love me does he? I guess I said it too early or maybe he just won't love me. My mood immediately fell and I was sad. He doesn't love me.
"Goodnight Daniel."
I turned around and walked to the door.
"Wait Katelyn."
I stopped and turned around.
"Yes?"
"I love you too."
