Chapter Eighteen

I was in the kitchen cooking some chicken for dinner when my son Ryan, ran by with his toy plane. He had always been running around.
"Mommy, Mommy look at me. I got dressed all by myself."
"I see that. You look so handsome. Just like your daddy."
"Thank you mommy. When is daddy coming home?"
"He'll be here soon Ryan. Just be patient. Grandma and grandpa will be here soon too, and Auntie Mia. Just you wait sweetie."
"Okay. Do you want me to help you mommy?"
"No it's okay honey. Just sit down in the living room and wait for them. Okay?"
"Okay mommy."
Ryan ran off into the living room. I always enjoy seeing him happy. I hope he'll be happy when I tell him he's getting a sibling. I hope they all will be happy.
I heard the doorbell ring and I went to open it. It was my parents.
"Mom dad. It's so nice to see you two."
"It's so nice to see you Katelyn."
"Grandma, grandpa."
"There's our little boy. How are you son?"
"I'm good. How are you?"
"We're both doing mighty fine. Nothing can knock us down."
"I'm happy to hear."
"We got you a little something Ryan"
"Oh what is it?"
I saw my parents hand Ryan a bag. He hugged them and opened it. It was a new toy. He seemed to enjoy it. He always does.
"Thank you grandma and grandpa."
"Oh it was nothing for our favorite grandchild."
"Mom, don't tell him that. No one has favorites Ryan."
"Yeah no one has favorites."
My dad said as he winked.
"Dad. Dinner will be done soon. Please sit down. Do you want some water?"
"Katelyn honey. Calm down. I'll help you."
"No it's okay mom."
"Katelyn, let me help."
"Okay just come into the kitchen with me."
My mom followed me into the kitchen and she started talking to me.
"Katelyn. What's wrong? You seem stressed."
"Nothing. I'm fine."
"Katelyn. Don't lie to me. Have you relapsed?"
"No mom. I haven't there's just something I want to tell all of you when everyone gets here. I'm not telling you what it is but I think you might like it."
"What is it?"
"Mom I just told you I wasn't telling you."
"Fine. Why can't they hurry up already? Where is that husband of yours anyway?"
"He's on his way home from work."
"Has he been good to you?"
"Yes mom he has. Why would you ask that?"
"I don't know. I just don't want to see you get hurt."
The door opened. It was him and Mia walking in. He was helping her with her son Aiden. Her boyfriend came in after them bringing gifts for us. Almost everyone's here. We're just waiting on his brother.
"Hi honey."
"Hi. How was work?"
"It was good. We won our case."
"That's good. How about you run up and take a quick shower. I set your clothes on the bed."
"Thank you honey. I'll make sure to hurry so I can help you."
"Yes, now go."
He went up the stairs to go take a shower. Mia walked up to me.
"Hi Kate. How have you been? We haven't seen each other in such a long time."
"Mia we literally saw each other last month on thanksgiving."
"That's such a long time without my little sister."
"I guess so. Well I've been good. How have you been?"
"Good. Tyler and I have been talking about marriage."
"It's about time. I was wondering when he was going to propose. You two have been dating for 10 years. I honestly wish you would have found him way earlier in life. Like before Brandon and Casey."
"Me too sister. He's such a great guy and look at what he gave me. He gave me such a sweet child."
"That's great. I'm really happy for you Mia. You deserve happiness after those two. They were such assholes."
"Yeah you're right. I'm so happy when I'm with Tyler. And the sex, don't even get me started."
"Mia! Your son's around."
"I'm only telling the truth."
"Whatever."
"So how about you and that husband of yours? You two have been married for 6 years. That's a long time."
"Yeah but he makes me happy. And not gonna lie, the sex is good too."
We laughed at how vulgar we were, especially with our family around.
"Okay well we should go sit down with our family."
"Okay. I'll help you take everything over."
We took all the food over and sat down with our family. I guess his brother isn't coming.
