Exalos, The Region of Survival

I was the last born child out of five siblings.

Zerthai was the oldest, followed closely by Izon. Hira came next, then Lux, leaving me as the youngest of us all.

We were all "wolves" hiding in our own dens at that time, the parents guarding their children, also teaching the ways of life to them.

I was different from others. Even from my own siblings. My parents hated me for that.

Every being that was born gets a random coloured highlight on their hair that shows what magic power they might have in the future.

Mine didn't appear.

"Streaks" are what we call them, are known to be given to the "gifted" they say. However, all the people I knew had one. If an entire family was given these Streaks, surely I would be given one too... right?

The purpose of magic in this world is to acquire knowledge, power, love, or wealth; to heal or ward off illness or danger; to guarantee productivity or success in an endeavour; to cause harm to an enemy; to reveal information; to induce spiritual transformation; to trick; or to entertain.

Because I had no powers, everyone thought I was useless. I had to stay in the dark woods all alone after the siblings left me to go hunting.

Streaks allow you to inherit specific elemental powers based on the colour. A gift from the gods above they will give if your will is strong enough for them to notice. At least, that's how I heard it.

In the family, Zerthai and Izon are the mature sister and brother of the pack, are great at hunting and care a lot about feeding us. However, Hira is the complete opposite and is the person who talks down on me the most. Lux rarely talks much, and likes to read books that were exported from different regions around the world.

Even despite having a decent life, I never felt like a sibling. Or a family member. I just felt... out of place. The other siblings were okay, but even they treat me like a stranger at most.

There was not much entertainment in Exalos, all we Wolfians did was just hunt for food only enough for us to live, none of the families lived nearby main hub and live secluded in the middle of the woods. There were books and clothes, but that was pretty much it.

I couldn't do much about it anyway. Well, there's this one known thing among the pack that says you can leave the pack and make your own decisions for yourself once you turn thirteen. So, I still have hope.

After all, I'm just an ordinary Wolfian who lives in Exalos.

Every day was the same. Hunt, eat, sleep and repeat, until one day, everything changed.

~~~
It was the year I turned 10, and the others grew one year older too.
The Streak never came. Nor did my powers.
I was in disbelief after I noticed this. Some even got their Streaks after they grew at around 2 years old.
Today, the parents went hunting again and told us to not go anywhere today. Unsurprisingly, everyone felt distant as usual.
I tried to stay out of everyone's way, I really did. But it's hard when you're stuck in a house with four other people.
I decided to get up from my chair and go outside to take a breather.
I was only moments by the door when Zerthai started to speak.
"Rai, father told us to not go out yet right?" Despite how powerful she is, she had a really soft voice.
