Percy's POV

PERCY ALMOST FELT BAD FOR Professor Binns. He'd had one History of Magic lesson already and, during it, was more bored than he'd ever been since Mrs Dodds –and that was saying something.

But seeing Binns try and fail to calm the class down when they obviously wouldn't shut up – even with help from Luna, who was now sitting back down, looking tired and ignoring her surroundings, in her own world – was quite sad.

The class was talking as they would outside – that, of course, being yelling and shouting to each other as they tried to process what happened. Percy could almost see the rumours flying across the room.

'-an arrow or something?'

'I think he's gone psycho. That's why he ran away.'

'He was probably going to the courtyard.'

'I heard that he was cursed-' Percy eventually gave up trying to listen.

'Professor Binns!' Neville called to the teacher, who had given up trying to control the class and was sitting at his desk, hunched over.

The professor didn't hear. Neville tried again. 'Professor Binns!' This time, he did look up, and floated over to them.

'Ah, Neville, where did you run off to? Oh, it doesn't matter. And you brought a friend! Er-' he stared at Percy, studying him like a textbook.

'Percy,' Percy reminded him.

'-Percy! Yes, I was going to say that. Whatever is the issue?'

Percy began. 'Well, we heard that something strange happened in this class. Was there an incident of a floating... glowing... thing, in the past fifteen minutes?'

'Well, as a matter of fact, there has! Some kind of, well, a stick? A spear? Yes, a spear sounds about right.'

'A spear?' Neville questioned.

'Yes!' Binns carried on. 'Appeared directly over a boy in the centre of the room. Scared him out of his mind, that did. The entire class hasn't stopped talking about it!' he rambled. 'Why, do you know what it was?'

Neville stepped in. 'Umm, no. We don't.' he glanced at Percy. 'We were hoping you could tell us, say, who is this boy you mentioned, and where is he?' he asked, hopeful.

'Ah, of course!' Binns exclaimed as if Neville had told him a hilarious joke. 'The boy was Draco Malfoy, you may know him? Fifth year? Blonde? Stereotypical Slytherin?' he droned on.

Neville looked stunned for a moment. Percy had no idea who this Draco Malfoy kid was, but Neville clearly didn't expect him to be a demigod. 'Umm, okay. But I didn't see Malfoy when I came in.' Neville said.

'Oh, he got a bit flustered and ran out of the classroom.' He laughed nervously. 'Some of the students say he went to the courtyard, if that's what you're after. Though I have no clue how they would possibly know.'

A few of the students had stopped their conversations and were staring at them, listening. As they ran out of the classroom, new rumours and gossip was exchanged.

'-they know something? Secretive, much? They-'

'-Binns wasn't even mad at Neville! He's so biassed-'

'-was that the American guy? He's hot.'

Percy immediately regretted listening in.
