Only a Country Girl (Book 1)

Twelve

Ava wakes you to a cold empty bed. She's a little sad and closes her eyes. The blissful images of last night play through her mind. She squeezes her thighs together feeling sore.
"Chase." Ava calls but doesn't get an answer. She gets out of bed and pulls off the bloody sheets. She throws them in the washer with bleach then showers.
After her hairs done and makeup is perfect she gets dressed. She must have left her phone in Chase's truck because she can't find it. She sighs and grabs Tessa's keys and gets in her car.
On the way to the hospital her mind is going crazy. She can't help but wonder what happen to Chase. Does he not want her? Does he regret last night? Is that what he wanted? All these things run through her mind.

Suddenly it's all a blur. You can hear glass breaking and metal screeching. Someone yells for help, within seconds sirens filled the air. Ava fills arms pulling in her she tries to move her lips but she feels numb. The EMT's lift Ava into a stretcher and take her away. Her mind can't comprehend what's going on, maybe she didn't realise how wet the road was or how tired she was. When they arrive at the hospital Ava is rushed into the trauma part of the ER.

Meanwhile in another section of the hospital Tessa and Jared are enjoying little Savannah. She's the Centre of their world.

"Hello." Jared answers the phone.

"I... I'm sorry." Chase's voice cracks.

"What is it bud?"

"This is all my fault." He feels guilty for leaving her. If he didn't leave she wouldn't have been driving alone.

"What is? Please tell me." Jared paces the room and Tessa looks worried.

"Ava got in an accident. I'm in the ER they won't let me in. She needs surgery. I don't know anything because I'm not family."

"What the bloody hell happened?" Jared rages and rushes out of the room. He takes the stairs, flying down them. "Hi I'm Ava's brother I need to see her. "

"Sir I'm afraid she's already in surgery you'll have to wait until she's done."

Jared turns around seeing Chase in a corner. He rushes him. He grabs him by the collar slamming him to the wall. "What the hell were you thinking." Jared's fist goes into Chase's gut and the air is knocked out of him.

A male nurse pulls Jared off and another grabs Chase. They are both escorted out of the emergency room. Jared's blood is boiling. He leaves without saying a word. He has to tell Tessa what's going on, except he doesn't want to ruin the glow in her face as she hold the baby.
