Only a Country Girl (Book 1)

Four

Ava decides to sleep in that Saturday morning, she wakes up to a tractor going and simple music playing through the house. She gets up and washes her face then gets dressed for the day. Her sister has left a note saying Jared and her went to town. She decides On going out and walking around the property. It's not long before she spots him! He's driving a tractor around but stops when he sees her, she smiles and waves. He stops it and runs over to her.

"Hey. What are you up to?" Chase asks.

"Nothing."

"Come on then, what are we waiting for?" Chase smiles and pulls her by her hand to the tractor where he was working. He climbed on the seat then pulled her on his lap. "Want to help me work?"

"What can I do?" She smiles in agreement.

"Keep me company. " He starts the tractor back up.

Those three days had gone by perfectly. Ava was falling hard and fast, they both knew how they felt of each other. Chase was planning a date. A little more romantic. Each night it took a little longer to say goodnight to one another.

Tessa and Ava walk into a Walmart first thing Monday morning. Tessa was buying a baby comforter and some basic essentials. "Will you go grab my some shampoo?" Tessa asks Ava.

"Sure." She smiles and walks away.

Ava in her our little mind daydreaming and smiling is soon snapped out of it. "Your Ava, right?" The girl is tall and skinny, platinum blonde hair and big brown eyes.

"Yes. I'm sorry, who are you?"

"Ana. I saw you and Chase Friday night and I just wanted to warn you because I know you're new around here. "

"What's there to warn about?" Confusion is clearly written on her face. Her lips curve into a frown with worry.

"Chase silly. He, well he gets around. Let me guess he said 'lets get out of here.' Then he probably took you to an open field and y'all laid under the stars and talked. " Ava's heart started to race and a lump started to grown in her throat. She grabbed what she needed and fled to her sister.

By the time they found each other her cheeks were tear stained. Just as she started actually liking someone wanting to be with them, getting that feeling inside that's not explainable.

"What's wrong? What happened?" Ava can't talk or else she'd full on cry. "Here's the key get in the car then we could talk."

When Tessa gets to the car Ava's balled. She helps her sister put the bags in then they start home. Ava explains everything. From her feelings to the girl and the way his touch burnt her skin. Tessa didn't know how to respond so Ava decides to go on a walk just to clear her head.

Everything runs through her mind. What if it's true? What if it's not? She puts her headphones on and continues walking. Chase is driving to Tessa and Jared's house. Ava sees a black truck, but doesn't think anything until it gets closer. She try's walking faster hoping he won't see her.

"Ava!" Chase yells but eventually pulls over and walks to the other side of the dirt road. "Ava." She's trying to walk, he finally pulls her arm to stop her. He has hands on both her shoulders, but she can't make eye contact. His blood starts to boil, he pull her earphones out. "What the hell is wrong?" He says a little harsh, but wouldn't you be mad after the weekend you had falling in love just to be ignored.

"Who's Ana?" She whispers not looking at him.

"I don't know. " He softly lifts her chin.

"Answer me. You know her." Ava's voice is thick with anger looking directly in his soft eyes.

"An ex-girlfriend."

"So you just took me and did everything you did with her?" His blood boils towards Ana, hot hot it is.

"That was three years ago. Damn it." He lets go of her completely. "You believe that shit? Tell me you don't , if you didn't think this weekend was real then I don't know what to tell you." Chase's tones escalating.

"Well why'd you do all the same things with me?"

"What was I supposed to do? Take you to a fucking candle light dinner wearing a tuxedo? Huh, is that what you wanted?"

Ava really is speechless. Her eyes start to cry as the air gets thicker almost suffocating.

"That's right I forgot you were a city girl who has everything fed to you with a golden spoon. This" He waves his hands between them. "Is over we are done!" He yells.

"You don't get to tell me that. Mine and Tessa's real dad left when I was three. He use to come home piss drunk every night and beat my mother. So you don't get to sit her and tell me that. I don't want you to ever talk to me again!" She yells louder and starts walking off.

"Ava, no I'm sorry." He tries catching her but she starts running. She's a fast little thing.

Ava runs all the way home and Chase is right on her tail. He gets out of the truck and slams the door.

"Just leave!" She yells.

Her sister and brother-in-law run out of the house. Tessa had told Jared what happened in the store already.

"No. I'm not leaving until you accept my apology!"

"What apology? The one where you act like nothing bad happens to anything else accept you? Hmm. No thank you."

Tessa pulls Ava inside. Jared tells Chase just to give her time to cool off. Chase slams his fist on the hood of his truck before getting in. Chase's eyes water a bit, Ava cries herself to sleep.
