Only a Country Girl (Book 1)

Thirteen

Ava walks up to a bright room. She tries to move then winces at the pain.

"Nurse." Tessa calls then walks over to Ava's bed side and kisses her forehead. It's been two days that Ava has been out.

The nurse walks in ready to drill Ava and explain what's going on. "Hey sweetheart my names Krista and I'm you're nurse. So you got in a car accident and fractured your leg. You black out and have been unconscious. Now I need to know everything that happened the day you wrecked and the day before?"

Ava looks around to room. She rubs her forehead with the back of her hand. "Everything?" Her voice is weak and shaky. The nurse nods yes to her. "Well my sister has her baby so I was at the hospital then my boyfriend took me home. It.... It... It was my first time. I woke up and he wasn't their." The tears begin to fall. "Then I got ready to come back to the hospital and I don't really remember anything else. "

"Ok. Let me run some vitals then we can talk about getting you home. " Krista smiles.

Tessa's blood boils that Chase would just leave. She actually hasn't even seen him.

After paperwork is signed and Ava has her stuff together they are allowed home. The drive is silent with the exception of a little whining from the new baby. Ava slowly walks to the house after the truck stops. When she gets to her room she slams the door and falls on her back on her bed.

"Hello." She answers her phone.

"Hi Ava. We need to talk." It's Ava's mother. "Oh honey I've been worried sick about you. I bought you a ticket so that next week you can come home. Daddy says 'hi'. I need to finish my work. I love you so much. "

"Love you Mom." Ava hangs up without any objections.

Ava sighed and got up. She used the crutches like ordered to and went to the Savannah's room. "Can I hold her?" She asks and sits on the rocking chair. Tessa gives her the baby.

"Actually would you mind if Jared and I ran to the store? Only if you're up to it. "

"Yeah that would be ok." Ava smiles and rocks back and forth.

Just as Ava closes her eyes and the house is empty the door bell rings. Ava hurries as fast as she can placing the baby in the crib and getting her crutches going to get the door. It's Chase. She's speechless. The only thing between them is the thin screen door, Ava is suffocated by the thick air.

"Ok will you give me the chance to talk?" He asks her. Ava simply nods putting her weight on her support. "Fist off I know how that looks,  like I just wanted one thing but you know I didn't baby. Trust me if I did I would have done it along time. Secondly I was suppose to be back before you woke up."

"Well where did you even go?" She closes her eyes.

"I well... I.." He drops to one knee. "I just wanted to promise my love to you." He pulls out a silver ring that's very thin and has just a tiny diamond on top. It isn't much but it's perfect.

Dust flies up behind Chase as Jared pulls into the drive. The two get out as fast as they can. Ava has one bag and Jared runs to the porch.

"What's going on here?" Jared rushes Chase and Tessa quickly grabs him.

Tessa pushes Jared in the house. "Can you just leave please." Tessa closes the front door and Ava goes to her room with tear filled eyes.
