After awhile, Sarah and Jeffy were enjoying living with Laurie and Michael. They were very kind and sweet to them. Michael was very playful with the kids like a loving father or most likely a uncle. The kids enjoyed him. Even with Laurie. She was a loving mother and caring person. Jeffy would still call her "mommy".Laurie thought it was cute that he called her mommy. Sarah though was having a hard time to call her mom, because for one she did always want a mother and a father yes, but she being with Laurie is was just hard for her, but she did love her as a mother. Laurie told her it was fine and she didn't have to call her mom. Sarah wanted to, but it may take a long time.
Laurie went to town with Jeffy and Sarah, they got new birth certificates, and she signed rights of adopting them. After the paper work, she took them to the grocery store to get somethings, Jeffy and Sarah even got to pick out stuff of what they wanted to celebrate their adoption. They were heading home until one of the locals came up to Laurie.
"You still have that brother of yours?"
"Just ignore her," Laurie whispered to Jeffy and Sarah as she guide them to the truck.
"He's a monster, Strode! He killed my daughter and her husband."
Laurie sighed after she got the kids and their groceries in the truck. She turned to the woman, "look, the reason why I have my brother living with me is so I can help him. I'm sorry what he did, and I know that won't bring them back. He's better now. Michael wasn't himself years ago. He was controlled!"
"That's what they all say. But we all know he is just pure evil."
Laurie sighed and got in the truck driving off. She knew fighting would be no use.
"Was Uncle Mickey bad?" Jeffy asked.
"...I can't talk about it," Laurie sighed, "it's just a long story and...it was really bad."
Once home, Michael waved at them as he chopped the wood, but he noticed Laurie wasn't happy. Maybe she ran into one of the locals that talked bad about him. He dropped his head down. He was trying to do better. Really. He sat down on a tree stump and looked down.
Sarah and Jeffy finished bringing in the groceries and turned to him. Sarah turned to Jeffy, "how about you help Laurie, ok?"
"Ok, sis," Jeffy then walked back in the cabin and Sarah walked up to Michael. She noticed he took off his mask and looked down at it sadly.
Michael noticed her and quickly put his mask on. He turned to her with sadness in both of his eyes.
"I am guessing you know why Laurie is upset, huh?"
Michael nodded.
Sarah never did this before, but she cared for Michael like family so she hugged him. Michael was surprised. Sarah never hugged him before. It felt...good. He never had a good embrace from anyone for a long long time. He then bowed his head down in a way of returning the embrace.
Sarah then let go and looked up at him. "I'm sorry you have to go through it. I have been through stuff where Mother Superior talked badly behind my back."
Michael noticed a tear running down her cheek so he lifted his hand and wiped it away. He was just showing he really cared for her. She then smiled and took his hand walking him back inside the cabin. Once inside, Laurie was starting dinner and Jeffy was helping her.
Jeffy then turned and smiled running to Michael to hug him. Michael then patted on his helmet smiling under the mask.
"You two ok?" Laurie asked turning to Michael and Sarah.
"I am better. You?" Sarah asked and Michael nodded.
Laurie slightly smile, "never better. Because I have two wonderful kids and a amazing brother in the world."
Jeffy then smiled, "and we have the best mommy ever."
