Hwang Hyunjin's relationship with the moon was complicated, as are most relationships centered around power. And Hyunjin was one of them. Struggling to figure out his relationship with the big, white, glowing moon.
Hyunjin's muscles vibrated with anticipation as he balanced on his toes on the edge of the rooftop effortlessly, dangerously. The moonlight shone on his perfect, pale skin, it make Hyunjin' body itch in annoyance, like a string, pulled too hard.
He breathed deeply, closing his eyes. Enjoying the feeling of the wind on his skin, ignoring the tingling feeling in his stomach.
His Dad, no. That was wrong worded. His...his Boss, his Master, had always told him to be grateful for the power of the moon. It gave him strength, wisdom, knowledge. But sometimes...Hyunjin resented being strong.
Hyunjin's rectangular eyes roamed the streets below. The street lights were burnt out, and probably had been for a while. A month, Hyunjin guess which made him chuckle. The air smelt like rotten trash, cracks in buildings, a place which would most definitely haunt a poor little child. But Hyunjin didn't mind, he saw easily in the dark like most would in the day light. He was a nine-tailed fox after all, he had more advantages than the normal human being.
In his opinion, the trash, broken lights helped with the aesthetic of the building. Just like him, Hyunjin thought his place definitely suited his life. Dark, meaningless.
Hyunjin got off his tippy toes. As the thought of spiders or bugs slowly crawling out of the cracks, Hyunjin still had his fears, even as a Gumiho. Hyunjin backed up into the center of the six-story drop, laying down on the cold concrete.
Hyunjin brushed his long black hair behind his ear, locking eyes with the moon. Perhaps, a more sweet, optimistic soul would see a strange beauty in the pattern, maybe try to relight the empty street. But not Hyunjin, definitely not Hyunjin. He saw no beauty.
Hyunjin stood up, touching his bare arm. Cold. Hyunjin didn't realize how cold it really was. But he didn't mind, Hyunjin was wearing a black tank top, leathered pants and some boots.
Hyunjin pulled out his phone, the case was gold. He dialed one of the only two phone numbers that were saved in there. He had no social life, just him, alone.
"Did you find him, Seonbae?" Hwang Yeji's sweet but deep voice immediately said after she had picked up the phone. No, they were not siblings. No, they weren't lovers.
Yeji was the only person who Hyunjin could actually call a friend. She was the only person outside of his family who he felt close and comfortable with, Yeji felt the same. They had no romantic interest in each other though.
Hyunjin chuckled a bit, he had always thought that Yeji was a lesbian. Even though she loved Hyunjin, she was very closed to him. Hyunjin knew her well, her favourite colour, food and when she was upset but he didn't know anything very personal about her. He didn't know her family at all, what her occupation is, or even her sexual orientation. Whenever he'd question her about it, Yeji would fall silent. Hyunjin never question her again. Understanding she was uncomfortable about those topics.
"Seonbae? Can you hear me?" Yeji asked again, more panic in her voice.
The way she stuttered out seonbae made the respectful title sound suffocatingly formal. As if she was talking to someone older, twice her age. They were only three months apart. Hyunjin born in March, Yeji was born in May.
Hyunjin would rather be called by his own name. But he understood why, overall, he was technically in a higher position then Yeji. But he knew the younger girl used that title for multiple reasons. Hyunjin remembered when Yeji had called him 'Oppa.' He would rather Seonbae then that. Hyunjin simply couldn't see Yeji calling him that.
