"John, we need another babysitter." Marie spoke to her husband while handling her son – who was squirming and crying, and refusing to eat.
She loved her baby dearly, but at times like this, she just wished that Max would just stop crying and be a good boy like he was before… before.
John, her husband, only shook his head.
"We can't have another accident happen to another babysitter this soon. People will talk." He sighed heavily while putting down his tools. He was an architect and quite a successful one at that.
But the heavy burden of having to kill seven people in a short span of time was starting to take its toll on him.
His dark brown hair was becoming gray in a short period of time, and not in a flattering way, and Marie was the same. She was a young and beautiful bride before this all happened, and now she looked older than she was, aging faster than she should.
But they all endured it gladly for their only son, the sunshine of their life.
Only at this time, the so-called sunshine was more like a storm with his turbulent tantrum.
They knew the time limit was approaching fast before they had to take another life, but taking an innocent life also chipped away at their sanity, even if it was for their son, and they didn't know where else to find another unsuspecting victim.
After the third victim, people started to get wary of coming outside alone, especially since they lived in a gated community near university and hospital. People tend to notice things after a while.
Marie swore that she could feel the suspicious gaze of one of the elderly at the hospital when she came around to pick up some medicine, but John told him that she was imagining things.
She was about to cry when she heard the doorbell ring.
"Did you expect someone?" John frowned. He didn't like it when someone came over without notice, since they could not prepare for… things.
"No, you know how I don't like to invite anyone here… not since… you know." Marie took Max with her as she walked to the door to take a peek at who was coming.
"Let me get it." John pulled Marie back as he opened the door to reveal two beautiful men in black and white, with a smile on the one in black and a plate of homemade lasagna on the one in white.
"Hey there, neighbor! Sorry to barge in like this, but we just moved across the street and we want to say hi!"
The man with long black hair and Asian descent and all black clothes entered the house with such force that caused John to take a step back.
John was a big man, and the Asian guy was not as big as him, but he had this big of a presence that caused him to… submit. Like he was in front of the Apex predator.
"My name is Wei Wuxian and this is my husband, Lan Wangji." The man in black – Wei Wuxian – introduced himself and the one in white – Lan Wangji, he presumed – gave him the pan of lasagna.
"For you."
The voice was rich with deep timbre, and it was very familiar to him. He wondered where he had heard of it when Marie gasped in surprise.
"You! You are Lan Wangji, the actor?"
She almost dropped her baby when Wei Wuxian quickly caught the boy and held him close.
John and Marie gasped, since Max never liked strangers and he would do something… unbelievable, when he was pissed. But strangely, his tantrum stopped right away when he saw Wei Wuxian's smile, and he smiled back while touching the dimple on the man's cheek.
"Hey little man, you are so handsome, what's your name?" Wei Wuxian cooed at the baby, who cooed back and giggled while drooling and he caught Wei Wuxian's finger then sucked it.
"Oh my god, Max!" Marie was so surprised, she snatched the baby back from Wei Wuxian. "I am very sorry, he doesn't usually do that to strangers." Marie was so flustered, Wei Wuxian felt sorry for her. "Anyway, wow, Lan Wangji… I saw every one of your movie, you're very good!" She beamed as she gave the baby to her husband. "May I request a photo together? My friends will be jealous when they know that Lan Wangji has became our neighbor!" She literally squealed and Wei Wuxian chuckled.
He saw that his husband's face was stoic as usual, but he knew that he must be preening right now, that proud dragon.
"Well, Lan Zhan, go on, do your thing, I will wait here and talk with Mr…" He looked at John in question.
"Oh, Jesus, I am very sorry, my name is John Weiss, and this is my wife, Marie Weiss, and this little dude is Max Weiss. Nice to see you, Mr. Wei, and Mr. Lan." John offered his hand and Wei Wuxian shook it warmly.
"Nice to meet you John. May I call you John? Call me Xianxian. And nice to meet you too, Max." Wei Wuxian tickled the little boy who giggled happily. "We should invite you to come over for a barbecue soon. How about tomorrow? Just bring yourself and we'll prepare all the food."
"I–" John looked at Marie who was so excited and nodded her head, and he smiled. "Okay, we will come to your place tomorrow. One pm good?"
"Perfect." Wei Wuxian kissed his fingers and made a smack with it. "We will be ready for you."
After Marie took a lot of pictures with Lan Wangji, they said their goodbyes and Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian walked across the street to enter their newly purchased house inside the gated community.
"Wow, Lan Wangji live just right across of our place!" Marie squealed like a girl. She loved him a lot, because he always played the hero of any woman's dreams. He was even more handsome in real life than behind the screen. "And his partner? He's so charming and very handsome too!" She had that dreamy look on her face. "I can't wait for tomorrow to come!"
