As soon as Jingyi drank his iced tea, his body immediately felt numb. He put the glass down and he looked at Marie questioningly, but the latter only smirked at him.
"I should've done this before – picking orphans to die for my son. This way, I don't have to bother to have any remorse and I certainly don't need to find alibis for… someone like you." Then she walked to the front door to open it and her husband – John – entered.
He looked at Jingyi and the latter could see the pain in his eyes – very different from Marie – and Jingyi knew immediately that this man was probably being influenced by his wife to kill people for their son.
"I'm really sorry for this. I don't want to do it, but I have to. Marie would be devastated if our son died. Rest assured, I will pray for your salvation and hope you find peace wherever you're going."
John easily lifted Jingyi up and he walked toward the shallow part of the pool and entered it slowly while muttering some prayer for Jingyi.
"Our Lord who arts in Heaven, I know You may not forgive us sinners, but at least deliver Max from evil, and let him grow happy and until his hair goes gray."
With those words, John let go of Jingyi and he watched as Jingyi slowly descended to the bottom of the pool.
