"Wow, this is amazing to watch," Katara said, as the five of us lay on a log, gazing up at the meteor shower lighting up the night sky above.
"Kind of makes you realize how insignificant we are," Sokka agreed.
"Eh, you've seen nothing once, you've seen it a thousand times," Toph shrugged.
"Oh man, you've never not seen anything like this," Sokka insisted.
However, we all stood up when we noticed one of the meteors getting alarmingly closer. It suddenly flew past us, and we actually saw as it crashed not that far away from us, making the ground rumble. Even Toph had to have felt that. We didn't waste any time before making our way to the crash site, realizing that the entire area had caught on fire, threatening the safety of a nearby town.
"The fire is gonna destroy that town!" Katara cried.
"Not if we can stop it!" Aang declared.
"There's a creek over here. I'll bend the water onto the fire," Katara stated quickly.
Aang and Toph got to work, creating a trench from keeping the fire from coming closer. I began working on snuffing out every possible flame I could using my bending. Putting fire out was a lot trickier than creating it, though, so I was thankful to have Katara come back quickly and aid me in stopping the fire.
"What should I do?" Sokka asked.
"Keep an eye on Momo," Aang told him.
"So what, I'm just a lemur sitter?"
After a while, we managed to get rid of the fire successfully, leaving nothing but the huge crater created by the meteor falling. Aang smiled, looking quite pleased.
"Good work, everybody!"
But I could tell something was bothering Sokka. He seemed more annoyed than usual. However, I decided not to dwell on it too much for now.
"These people have no idea how close they were to getting toasted last night," Aang said, as we sat in a public cafeteria eating breakfast the next morning.
"Yeah, the worst thing about being in disguise is that we don't get the hero worship anymore. I miss the love," Toph complained.
"Boo-hoo, poor heroes," Sokka said sarcastically.
I raised an eyebrow. "Is something bothering you?"
"No. I'm perfectly fine."
"So why haven't you touched your smoked sea slug?" Katara asked him.
"It's just, all you guys can do this awesome bending stuff like putting out forest fires, and flying around and making other stuff fly around. I can't fly around, okay? I can't do anything," Sokka said, sounding defeated.
"That's not true. No one can read a map like you," Katara suggested.
"I can't read at all!" Toph agreed.
"Yeah, and who keeps us laughing with sarcastic comments all the time?" Aang said in an attempt to help. "I mean, look at Katara's hair, right? What's up with that?"
"What? What's wrong with my hair?" Katara asked, blushing.
"Nothing. I was just trying to..."
"Look, I appreciate the effort, but the fact is each of you is so amazing and so special and I'm... not. I'm just the guy in the group who's regular."
"There's absolutely nothing regular about you, Sokka," I said, making all of them look at me weird. "I mean that in the best way!"
"I'm sorry you're feeling so down, but I hope you know, none of us see you that way. I know something that's going to make you feel better," Katara said with a smile.
