It was stupid.

Immature.

Reckless.

But it was something they did regularly.

Roman watched with clenched fists as the blond effortlessly rose from the floor. The blond's eyebrows were pulled together with that concentrated look, his tongue swiping his bleeding lip. He looked ready to beat the shit out of Roman... which he kinda already was.

Roman's movements, however, weren't as slick or filled with precision, instead he moved purely on gusts of rage. Maybe that was why he always found himself in these situations, trying to prove something. But his hunched and painful stance and the bleeding cut above his eyebrow seemed to prove the opposite.

A second wasn't wasted as Will struck Roman's cheek. On cue, and reacting solely on impulse, Roman lunged at the blond's stomach, plunging the two of them onto the unforgiving concrete floor. Roman relentlessly tried to punch the blond's thick skull, only for them to be blocked by his forearms.

Amidst the deafening noise and iron taste in his mouth, Roman managed to land a punch on Will's stomach. Will didn't like the idea of that as he elicited a groan and pushed the boy over to straddle him.

It was a simple glance. Like their many dumb fights, it always started with a look. Just one look had the boys all riled up.

Roman felt Will's hand grab his jaw before his taunting voice filled his ear, "Already tired?"

"Shut the fuck up." Roman gritted through his teeth. He managed to connect a fist to Will's lower side again and grabbed his shirt to force him off.

You'd never expect a nerd to fight as well as he does, Roman mused quietly through his mind.

You'd never expect someone as stupid as Roman to fight this well, Will noted.

They reluctantly got back up, cautiously staring at each other with their fists up. They tried to find a moment to strike, but through Roman's drenched face and a torrent of blood from his upper eyebrow and Will's stomach feeling that his organs could tumble out of him any second— it seemed impossible.

A crowd had formed around the two. What else did they expect from a public school in a shitty area? It seemed like a rogue wrestling match with a few cheering and watching the two boys go at it.

They never fought like this. It was only simple insults and comments spat at each other in class or the halls. But fuck, this felt way more satisfying than a stupid insult. It's been going on relentlessly for five minutes, with no proof of ending anytime soon.
