Who is the real monster

Chapter 10

"Now for awakening of the night sky" I said as the waterfall parted and the cave behind it lit up with my blazing night. Then I used my darkness to build a bridge to cross over to the cave safely. As I entered the room where my parents' graves rested I sat down in front of them. "I'm home mother and father. I hope you're glad to see me just as much as I am happy to see you. I'm sorry for not visiting on the day of your death but I was busy training the lower ranks of the monster hunter core alongside my fellow captains. I know you can forgive me but I can't forgive myself. I've been able to visit you every year but this year I know is going to be different. I have a feeling that the monster hunters are going to be able to finally take down these repulsive monsters once and for all. I know that everything is coming together and I will put the monster that killed you in his grave for the rest of time" I said as I punched a hole into the ground. Tears of sadness and anger ran down my face as I felt the presence of monsters from behind me. "No one is supposed to be here, human or monster. You have wandered into your graves. Though I will give you the chance to escape I won't hold back forever so make your choice wisely all of you" I said as I stood up. "I like how you're giving me the choice Zane but sadly we both know that I'm not leaving. We both know that I'm here to finally finish off the Destinys once and for all" A monster said with an evil laugh. I turned around and noticed a monster with the word dreams written on his right leg. "What, Zane, afraid that you're going to be defeated by me because I'm more powerful than you?" the monster said with a grin. More tears ran down my face as I took a step forward. The monster just had a grin on his face as he activated his magical power and I was knocked out cold.

"Zane wake up, come on bud it's time for bed" my fathers voice said as I opened my eyes. When my eyes completely opened I saw my father sitting next to me on my bed with a smile on his face. Tears began to run down my eyes as I hugged my father which scared him and put a worried look on his face. "Zane is everything alright" my father said with a worried expression. "All of that was a dream you guys didn't die that night. I'm glad I get to hold you in my arms again after all this time. Please never leave me again" I said with tears in my eyes. "Zane what do you mean? What did you dream about that was so scary? '' my father asked as he wrapped his arms around me. I didn't answer my father as I couldn't find the words to explain to him what I had seen. My dream had felt so real and that I had lived eight years without my parents in my life. Where I was running from my past trying to hide from the harsh reality I was living in my slaying monsters without a second thought. When my tears finally ran dry I explained to my father what I saw in my dream. He smiled at me and told me that everything was going to be alright telling me that it was just a nightmare that I had. But at the same time it all felt to real a dream that was more realistic then I could have ever imagined it being. My mother entered my room with a glass of water and sat on the other side of me and handed me the cup. As I drank the water I began to calm down now that my parents were home. After I finished the water I hugged my parents and went back to bed believing that all I had was a bad dream. But it still shook me that a dream could be that powerful and make me feel like I had aged eight years without actually doing so. As I drifted off to sleep I felt a cold presence watching over me and attempted to call out to it. Sadly I couldn't get a response or the thing didn't want to respond to me. I woke up the next morning and found my parents in the kitchen cooking breakfast together. I then thought back to last night and everything that had happened in my nightmare and decided to ask them questions about it. As we all sat down at the table and began to eat I asked one of the questions I had. "Mom, Dad can I ask you both something" I asked as I picked at my food. "Ask away Zane will answer any question you have" my mother said in a soothing voice. "Last night in my dream a lot happened and I want to know if I have an older brother that you two have been keeping hidden from me" I asked with concern. Both my parents had looks of disappointment on their faces as my father put my hand on my shoulder. "Zane, we have lied to you for a long time about many things. Long before you were born your mother and I were in high school and began dating our Junior year. Then in our senior year we discovered that your mother was expecting a child. Both our families pleaded for us to abort the baby but we refused. So we got married and had a boy who we named Jason. And after your mother and I graduated we moved into this house. To answer your question, yes you have an older sibling and he is currently a monster hunter just like me and your mother" my father said with disappointment. "There is still much we have to tell you Zane so if you want to know it all then just tell us when you're ready" my mother replied with a smile. "I'm ready to hear it, please tell me everything you've been hiding from me" I said with determination. "We've never told you the whole story but your mother did have an older brother and when your grandparents were killed they sided with the resistance. He had a family of his own, one daughter named Alyssa. She was an amazing young girl and wanted to become a monster hunter like you. That was until she heard they were late to saving your grandparents and joined her parents in the resistance. You two are only about six years apart so the age gap is clear" my father said with disappointment. My whole world turned upside down after I heard my cousin's name. Please let all this be real and not an illusion created by a monster. Tears formed in my eyes as I slammed my hand down onto the table. My parents and I watched as it lit a blaze by my blazing night. Tears ran down my face as I bolted out the front door into the pouring rain. "Why couldn't all of that have been a dream? Why must I lose my parents? Why must it be me that must be a monster hunter" I called out into the rain as I ran through the streets of my city. I soon came to the place where my parents were buried and saw the cave I had created in my dream lit a blaze by my blazing night. As I ran inside a bridge of darkness manifested allowing for passage. When I entered the room two broken gravestones lay in the middle. I fell to my knees and punched a hole into the ground as my tears fell to the ground. "Zane why did you run off like that? '' My fathers voice said from behind me. "I thought all of that had been a dream, it turns out I was wrong. Both of you are dead and what is behind me is all just an illusion created by a monster" I said as I stood up and whipped the tears off my face. "What are you saying Zane we aren't dead? What you saw last night was all just a dream" my mother said with concern. "Then explain this cave being here. Because I was the one who created it in my dream after your deaths and discovering my dark abblites. Explain how this cave could have been here if it weren't for your deaths it wouldn't exist. So explain to me how it's here" I said as I lit my left hand a blaze. Both my parents looked at each other as they tried to find the words to speak. "See you can't explain it can you. I wanted us to be a family and you watch me grow up and start my own family. It turns out that life can't always be the way we want it to be'' I said as tears flowed down my face. My parents walked up behind me and hugged me. "If you believe that all of this is fake Zane then do what you believe needs to be done to get you out of this dream" my mother said as a tear rolled down her cheek. As my parents let go of me I walked over to their graves and picked up the pieces that had been destroyed. "Blazing night of the seven sins eternal suffering" I said as I lit my body a blaze. As my flesh burned away that same dark presence I had felt earlier made itself be seen. "I never thought you would be able to do it Zane I guess I was wrong" A demonic voice said through the darkness. "You set this up didn't you" I called out into the abyss. "No Zane, you created it yourself using the help of a monster's magical power. This encased you in a fantasy that let you see your family again. It wasn't me it was you who had created a world your parents were allowed to live in with you by their sides. Because if it were up to me I wouldn't let you see your parents again. I want your body. So I want you to feel hopeless and desperate so it's easier for me to take over. I would never give you what you want. Besides it's clear that even if I had given you what you desired you would find flaws and figure out that it was all an illusion" the darkness replied in a demonic tone. "So everything I saw was an illusion that was created or was it real and I saw a reality where my parents had survived all those years ago. Everything seemed so real, the pain and suffering. The burns I got when I lit myself ablaze using blazing night. Was all of that part of the illusion or was it real enough" I asked with tears in my eyes. "Yes it was real, you believe it to be a dream but it was all real. I can't explain it myself as it's not my magical power but all of it was real" the voice said. "Let me go and see this monster face to face and destroy him once and for all for making me feel even more pain. I want to watch him burn in hell as I send him" I said as I lit my hand a blaze. I heard a small laugh from the abyss as I was knocked out and woke up in front of the monster who had a look of shock on his face. "What the hell, how did you escape from that fantasy I showed you and what is that mark on your forehead?" the monster said with shock and horror. "Why don't I show you just what this mark does for me?" I said as I punched the monster in the stomach and sent him flying out of the cave. As I walked out I saw him lying on the ground trying to stand up. Before he could even blink an eye I was on top of him with my sword in hand with anger and hatred in my eyes. "So did you like flying for a second there or do you want to take another trip" I said as I lit my sword a blaze. He had a look of shock as he tried to attack me but I jumped off of him and dodged his attack. As he stood up he had even more horror in his eyes as my demonic mark changed. "That mark gives you more power but with each transformation you lose even more control over that power you control. So it's just a battle of endurance to see who lasts longer" the monster said as he charged towards me. "Don't think that you're going to defeat me so easily. Black hole" I said as I covered the area in darkness. He activated his magical powers and I was quickly knocked out. "You are the worst son ever, you couldn't even save your parents from a monster" My father said as I sat on my knees with tears in my eyes. "You're the one who should be dead as you could never become the most powerful monster hunter in the world. Now go die in a hole for all I care" my mother said as she threw a book at me. "I don't know why I ever took in such a disappointment that couldn't even save me. The person who took him in and treated him like a son," Nick said with anger. "You are a disappointment to the Destiny family name and are not my younger brother" Jason said with hatred. "Shut up" I said in a soft tone. "What did you say we couldn't hear you disappointment" My mother said with a cocky tone. "I SAID SHUT UP" I screamed at the top of my lungs. They were all taken aback by my change in attitude towards them. "My real family would never say such things about me and would never betray me in such a way that they would make me feel like I was a disappointment. If they heard what you were saying in their voices they would be disgusted with you and themselves. They loved me more than you could possibly imagine. They all sacrificed themselves to give me a chance at life to defeat you damn monsters once and for all. All of them are spitting in their graves because of the words you're putting in their mouths. Now get out of my sights and let me kill that monster that made me see this reality once and for all. Dark overflow" I said as I broke free from the monster's spell. As my eyes opened the monster started backing away with tears of fear flowing down his face. "You are the worst monster I have ever faced in my life. Putting those words in the mouths of my family is unforgivable. Something that I could never forgive in a million years. Now like I said earlier you have the chance to escape or I will chop you up into little pieces in a matter of seconds. So monster, what is the choice you're going to make?" I said with anger in my voice. The monster tried to move but because of his shock and horror he just sat there paralyzed with the fear in his eyes. "Alright then monster see you in hell. Starry Night enveloped by darkness" I said as I chopped off the monster's head. "Zane Destiny you bastard" the monster said as his body fell to the ground in shock. "I sense his magical power in this cave. But I have no clue why Captain Zane would be in this place" I heard a voice say from the entrance of the cave. As the figures emerged I noticed it was Rylie, Alyssa, and Alex who were supposed to be in captain training. "Captain Zane, are you alright?" Alyssa asked as she ran over to me. "10,000 dark spikes" I said as I launched the attack at them. "Ice wall" Alex said as he blocked the attack. "Why is Captain Zane attacking us as his allies?" Alyssa asked with concern. "Didn't you notice that demonic mark on his forehead? He must have activated his dark overflow power Dylan told us about. Meaning what we see before us isn't Zane but the demon who resides within him" Rylie replied with worry. "What are we supposed to do? We stand no chance against the captain of Squad Divine" Alex said as he put up another ice wall. "Leave that to me. Just defend me for long enough to get close to him" Rylie said with confidence. "Alright be quick. Shattered ice shards" Alex said as he destroyed the ice walls in front of us. "Tornado vortex" Alyssa said as she took the ice shards and made an ice tornado. As I tried my best to defend from the attack I didn't realize that Rylie was sneaking up behind me. "Purifying light of day" Rylie said as she attacked me. I fell to the ground in shock as my dark overflow silenced within me. "Zane," Alyssa said as she ran over to me. I coughed up a little blood as anger and rage flooded over my face. "Again I still can't control this damn power. I still can't control the darkness that resides within me. I almost hurt the people closest to me because of this damn power" I said as tears of anger ran down my face. "Zane" Rylie said as she took a step closer to me. "I'm going to be the one to kill them all because I can't control my emotions. I need to get over the death of my parents and move on with my life. So why can't I do that? Why can't I forget them and lose touch with my emotions? Why must I be the one to suffer this agonizing pain? Answer me somebody please tell me why it had to be me" I said with tears in my eyes. "I can't tell you why it was you who had to lose it all and live in a world where your parents died because of these monsters" Alyssa said as she sat next to me. She put her arm around me as I sat down in front of my parents' graves. "Mom, Dad, Jason, and Nick, I promise you that I will finally kill these damn monsters once and for all. You gave me the chance of a lifetime to finally be the one to put these monsters in their graves and Mom and Dad I promise you; me and Alyssa will be working side by side like you wanted all those years ago" I said as I whipped the tears from my eyes. "Zane, what do you mean by working side by side like you wanted all those years ago?" Alyssa asked with concern. "Alyssa this may seem hard to hear but you're my cousin. I was told by my parents what happened all those years ago before I was born. I don't blame you for siding with the resistance with your parents as I almost went down that same path" I said as I started to stand. As I stood up Alyssa wrapped her arms around me to hug me. Tears ran down her face as I did the same. "I thought my cousin was dead. My parents convinced me that he died due to complications during birth. They lied to me but now I get to hold my younger cousin in my arms nearly seventeen years later. If my parents were here right now I would beat them up. I always knew they lied to me but I never pushed it. Please promise me Zane that you will do everything in your power to convince your aunt and uncle what horrible choices they made in their life by siding with the resistance" Alyssa said with tears in her eyes. "I promise I will. I promise I will never let another family member slip through my fingers again" I said as I tightened my grip on Alyssa. When I let go of her I turned towards my parents' graves and I felt a small presence behind me as if they were with me. "I promise you mom and dad that I will do everything in my power to defeat these monsters and reunite our family" I said as I stood up.
