Capítulo VIII- ¿A quien vas a salvar?

Atsuki managed to escape the clutches of Maki's training. She excused herself to use the bathroom and slowly paced to and back from the restroom. She tapped the bruise on her cheek and winced. At this point in time, she knew how to block any hits thrown to her face, but with one small glance at how Nobara was doing, the staff connected to her cheekbone. Although her movements were unpredictable, Atsuki was usually fast enough to move or block her incoming attacks. She sighed, dropped her shoulders, and glanced at the floor.

"What happened to you?" A new set of footsteps synchronized with hers and she immediately recognized the shoes. Megumi had his hands stuffed in his pockets, looking at her purple-turning-red cheek.

"Maki. I look away for one second and I'm on the floor with my cheek hurting," she answered.

"You should know by now to never look away. You've been training with Maki-senpai enough to know by now."

"Yeah, yeah. It builds up my tolerance to take hits." Megumi's bored face looked at the ground. She frowned thinking he pretended to care as they walked back to training. Well, she was walking back to training. Megumi had just arrived. She lightly elbowed his slumped arms and he nodded upward, signaling he was listening. She was more concerned if he was okay rather than listening to her complain about Maki's hits. "You're late today. Why's that?"

Megumi nearly brushed off her question. She was there too so she might as well know. "I found Tadashi's mother. I retrieved his name tag and gave it to her."

At the time, Atsuki was too worried for their safety to process what he had done at that moment. She had to rewind the events in her mind, but she refused. She didn't want to think past them getting out of the car in the heavy rain. She'd rather have Maki force her to run ten miles than relive that moment again.

"Everything happened so fast I can't remember. You actually went back?"

"Itadori and Kugisaki wanted to save him. We couldn't recover his body but it was enough to give her closure."

     "Oh."

She couldn't say much. She was ready to help Yuuji carry out Tadashi's body when he asked. She stopped because it would slow them down in finding the special grade. And he did point out that he was capable of killing others as Sukuna's vessel. Just the thought of him being right disgusted her. As much as she wanted to ignore it, he was capable of killing someone if Sukuna took over. He did nearly kill them that night.

The only reason she thought of retrieving Tadashi's body was for the mother. Even if they saw him as disgracing, she still cared for him. Atsuki could still her loud cries in the rain. She probably wouldn't have saved other delinquents if they needed help. She would kill the curse because it'll be one less curse in the world to worry about. If the others survived, then they would have impressive luck escaping a curse's clutches and there's nothing Atsuki can do about it.
