Capítulo XXV- Nadie se queda atrás
Atsuki thought she would wallow in her room as the others prepared for their mission. She was proud that she didn't. She sat in the car with her arms crossed and a clearly visible frown. Atsuki would indulge in Nobara and Yuuji's conversation, forgetting what she was upset about. However, the moment Megumi opened his mouth, the scowl would return, and it was on purpose. To say the least, the car ride was awkward and uncomfortable for Megumi and Atsuki was proud.
Luckily for the other two friends in the car, Atsuki would respond to them like nothing happened. It only left an awkward atmosphere when Megumi would answer. The only person in the car remorseful for him was Yuuji. The poor boy hadn't the slightest idea of what was going on. He feared if he asked out loud, one of the teenage girls would not respond kindly. He was smart enough not to ask.
The quartet didn't have to worry about the strange atmosphere when they pulled to their location. The old office building didn't look as dreadful as the other places they went too. It was recently abandoned without a doubt and was no more than three stories high. If anything goes well, the rescue mission wouldn't take too long.
Gojou filled them in on the details of the simple rescue mission. The cave and building were back to back. It saved them time in traveling to another place. "If you would like, you can partner up and pick a spot."
Atsuki clutched Yuuji's jacket and pulled him to her side. She raised her hand, announcing, "We'll take the cave."
"Huh?" He snapped his head to her. "We will?"
"We will."
He slowly turned to his teacher, drawling, "Oh. Okay."
As Gojou gave them instructions about the cave rescue, Atsuki felt Megumi's eyes on her. Megumi shouldn't have been upset when she chose him. After what he did this morning, he expected her to ignore him. It was what he wanted. Megumi and Kugisaki stayed silent two feet apart. Well, as silent as Nobara could be. She held back her laughter, seeing Megumi's face pale. He already wore a frown on his face day and night. She swore she saw it deepen when Atsuki chose Yuuji and she didn't feel a single ounce a remorse.
"Oh, and by the way," Gojou finally said. "There's a curse lingering around here somewhere. It isn't higher than a grade two."
Atsuki arched an eyebrow. "Where is it?"
He playfully said, "I don't know." They all knew he knew where it was. "Keep your eyes peeled!" he advised, grinning.
Atsuki frowned and hauled Yuuji with her. The boy stumbled to his feet and mumbled something underneath his breath. "What?" she asked harshly, turning on her flashlight.
"Nothing." He flicked his flashlight on and began forward.
The boy kept taking small glances at her. Worry consumed him with her fingers pinched on his coat. Yuuji first thought it was to make Megumi jealous. However, the further away they got from the cave, the more the thought left him. It had to be something else.
