"I'll believe it when I see it"

Miguel disappeared from the doorway, making me jump to my feet in a hurry. I walked out right behind him, keeping up with his hurried pace.
"Are you sure she's okay?" I question him, pointing out how fast he was walking. He didn't stop however, but scoffed under his breath instead. We were nearly to the front door now, when he halted right ahead of me, spinning to look directly at me. I didn't catch on that quick however.
I pushed into Miguel as he stopped, making me fall right for his chest. His floor was tile, and I was wearing socks, which made a very slippery combination. My feet didn't understand the idea of stopping so suddenly.
Luckily I was still up right though, all because Miguel grabbed my sides in a reflex to stop me from falling. I couldn't help but feel some sort of fluttering in my stomach, due to the sudden physical contact. I look back up at him now, only to see a pissed expression on his face. So, instead of keeping my calm like usual, I returned the same exact look.
His hands slide off my waist very slowly, before gently brushing against the top of my shoulders. Miguel's movements made my expression falter, as well as my face begin to warm. But just as I tensed up, he gripped onto my shoulders tightly. My brows raised, shocked by his changing behavior.
"You're staying here Maria" He commands, his voice slightly raising to convince me more. I believe that was the first time he ever used my real name. Miguel just said my actual fucking name.
It seemed almost terrifying coming out of his mouth, yet liberating at the same time. For the few days I've known him, I thought at this point maybe he could have forgot what my name truly was. That wouldn't be surprising, considering all he ever called me was Mar.
So, with as liberating as my name first sounded, I realized something else instead. I actually liked Miguel's little nickname for me. And that was certainly a terrifying thought that would now swirl around my head for days to come.
While staring up at him, I observed and decided what the best approach to this situation would be. It became obvious to my fuzzy brain eventually, leaving only one option in my opinion.
I unfurled my brows, tilting them upwards instead to create a distressed look. With that, my eyes widened to give him puppy dog eyes. It was embarrassing, but I prayed it would work to make him calm down and be accepting of me accompanying him on his way to his abuela's.
And just like I planned, his features softened. He looked confused now, loosening his grip on my shoulders though thankfully. With a sigh, he let his hands fall off of me. I felt a little smirk grow on my face.
