Ode to Shadow

Oh Shadow, my love, my sweet.

How I long to be with you again.

I feel joy, happiness, love.

Except when you're hungry, and you irritate us all.

You run under our feet, saying that you're just starving.

Haha. You are not that hungry, we feed you enough.

Besides that, you are amazing!

When I feel your fur that feels like silk,

when I hear you purr next to me in my bed at night.

My heartbeat races when I hold you.

The clouds in the sky seem to drift and uncover the sun in my heart.

I feel so light, so airy, so happy with you.

Are we meant to be?

I ask this all the time, and every time you purr your "yes."

Oh, how sad I will be when I leave for college.

Can I take you with me? No.

I want a college close to home, so I can visit on the weekends.

Yes, that is my primary goal. That is the one thing I want.

I have lost the other four, and I will not lose you.

You are special, the only one left; I will entrust you with my heart.

I trust you with my secrets and fears, knowing you think no less of me.

Oh Shadow, my love, my sweet!

You have your flaws, but don't we all?

You run us over when you find a toy, or when you want treats.

I am scorned for loving you so, but I don't care.

I don't care what others say!

They have not lived my life, have not suffered the loss I have.

They will never know my pain, my sorrows, my suffering.

You know. You know everything.

When I am sad, you make me feel better; when I am mad, you calm me down;

when I am lost, you bring me home;

actually, I bring you home when you run outside.

Oh Shadow, don't you realize that's why the others are gone?

You don't belong out there, it is a cruel world.

Oh Shadow, my love, my sweet.

I hold you closest to my heart.

I love you to the ends of the earth, a love that cannot ever be stopped.
