"You ready?" Natalia asked me, helping me zip my gown.

"I am beyond ready," I said, anxiously. I have to give a speech since i'm the valedictorian and I was nervous as hell.

I wiped my hands on my gown gently and we both walked downstairs; Jeremy, the guys and everyone else were waiting for us. I smiled and walked over to Jeremy, grabbing his hand. My dad made us take a lot pictures until he decided it was time to leave so we wouldn't be late.

We all hoped into our our separate cars and drove off to our high school. Once we get there, we park and run to the auditorium. We sit in our assigned seats and waited for the ceremony to start. I looked over at some of my friends and they gave me two thumbs up.

Unforunately, the principal walked up to the podium and started the ceremony. After we got through all of the boring stuff, theprincipal announced who the valdevictorian was and who the saldetorian was. She called me up to the stage and I took a deep breath and stood from my seat with my graduating class and walked up on the stage. The principal hugged me and left the stage. I turned to face the audience and adjusted the mic to my height. I gave a small smile and introduced myself.

"When we were five, they asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up. Our answers were things like astronaut, president, or in my case, a ballerina. When we were ten, they asked again and we answered - rock star, cowboy, or in my case, Socrates. But now that we've grown up, they want a serious answer. Well, how about this: who the hell knows?! This isn't the time to make hard and fast decisions; it's time to make mistakes. Take the wrong train and get stuck somewhere. Fall in love - a lot. Major in philosophy because there's no way to make a career out of that. Change your mind. Then change it again, because nothing is permanent. So make as many mistakes as you can. That way, someday, when they ask again what we want to be... we won't have to guess. We'll know. Thank you."

The audience clapped and my graduating class cheered. The principal came up to me and hugged me again and I went back to my seat, listening to saldetorian's speech. We soon each received our diplomas and did the classic 'throw your hats in the air' and we were off....to the real world.
