Chapter 41

“Guys! Hey guys, wake up!”

“Oy, Rubes! Theo! Addie! Come on guys, wake up!”

“Huh...” I mumbled sleepily. My face was pressed into something warm that smelt comforting and amazing. I realised it was Theo’s shoulder. I looked up and saw through the window that it was still dark.

“What is it?” Theo muttered sleepily. I lifted my face and saw his tired eyes, blinking dazedly at Alex and Jared, who were standing in the door way, their faces pale and wan.

“It’ Alice.”

I bolted up right in my sleeping bag, my tiredness fizzling away in an instant. “What’s happened?”

“Dave and Zach saved her. She’s going to be OK.” A smile broke over Jared’s face like the sun on snow. Relief pumped my veins, and I let out a wild laugh. Theo grinned, and Ruby-May slumped down with a mumbled “Oh, thank God.”

“Come and see her.” Alex beckoned us eagerly. The three of us scrambled to our feet, and we padded after the twins. They led the way into Alice’s room, where Linda was sitting by the side of her bed. She probably glared at me as I came in, but I didn’t care.

“Alice?” Ruby-May whispered, approaching the bed. A small body was huddled under the sheets, and it stirred. Alice propped herself up on her elbows and smiled weakly. She was still pale, and there were half moons nestled heavily under her eyes, but there were hardly any cuts left. Whoa, Werewolves sure did heal fast.

“Hey everyone.” She croaked, her voice husky.

“Oh Alice!” Ruby-May picked up her little sisters hand and held it tight. It looked thin and bony.“How are you?”
