Theo’s P.O.V
*Recap*
“It means that if Luna ever see’s Ruby-May again- her brains would blow up. She would die.”
*And pack to the present...*
Addie sagged against me, her body falling heavily against my arms. I grabbed her, holding her tighter. Ruby-May’s face paled visibly. I could practically hear the blood draining from her cheeks in horror.
“No- no, we can’t do that!” She cried, trying to wriggle upright in Derek’s arms. She grimaced in pain, and sagged back down into his arms. I noticed him hug her closer to his chest.
“Dave,” Addie whispered. “Dave, there has to be another way-”
“I’m sorry, Addie. It’s the only way she could forget.”
“Maybe,” I heard Addie swallow, hope rising feebly in her tone. “Maybe we could tell her...”
“You can’t risk it.” Derek said, his voice strained. “She could tell anyone.”
“No, Luna wouldn’t do that.” Addie grabbed my arm, squeezing it. “She wouldn’t! She’s my friend, she trusts-” She broke off suddenly, and Luna’s words seemed to ring in the silence: You lied to me, all this time! I thought- I thought we were friends!
Anger at Luna rippled through me as I thought how much her words had cut Addie, and my arm tightened around her.
“But- Ruby-May’s her friend...” Addie mumbled. Her voice cracked, and she buried her face into my shoulder, shaking with tears.
