Theo’s P.O.V

I couldn’t believe it. Addie was my mate. And we were in the woods, kissing, not having to worry about our tangled relationship. For once, everything in my life was pure, simple, and absolutely perfect.

Addie’s fist kiss tasted of her tears and lip gloss, and that hint that was just Addie. Now her tears had dissolved, and she was beaming at me, arms around my neck. She looked like an angel, glowing like her joy was a sun, burning brightly out of her. She was so beautiful it almost hurt my eyes to look at her.

Somewhere in the distance, I heard the bell trill a series of rings, signalling the end of the first lesson. I pulled back from our kiss, smirking.

“I think we’re bunking off.” I told her, and she laughed.

“Tell me more about being a wolf.” She said.

I raised an eyebrow. “There’s a lot to say.”

“We have time.” Addie smiled, and settled herself on the ground. I sat next to her, taking her hand gently. It felt like I had to check she was real, she was mine. I was scared my angel might fade away to the depth of my yearning imagination. Addie’s warm, delicate fingers rubbed mine, and I knew she was truly mine. I smiled.

“So you were born a human,” Addie began for me. “But Dave changed you. What about the others? All of you were adopted, right?”

I nodded. “None of us are Dave and Belle’s real kids. Maddy and Ruby-May’s pack died. They only joined our pack five years ago. The twins’ mother abandoned them, but they managed to find our pack when they were just a few months old. Linda’s parents were close pack friends with Dave, and when Linda’s father passed, her mother committed suicide to join him. Dave had to look after Linda. She was about two.

“Alice is faintly related to Belle, I think. Some kind of distant cousin’s daughter. I can’t really remember why she had to look after her... I think Alice wasn’t wanted. Belle was too nice to turn her down, plus she loves kids. Alice was only couple of days, I think. And now Belle’s got Baby Junior coming along. He’s going to be the only one of us with an uncomplicated past.”

Addie reached up to my face with the hand that I wasn’t holding and stroked it softly, eyes full of sympathy. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be.” I told her firmly. “I only get vague flashes of my parents... and they look like Belle and Dave in my mind’s eye. They’re the nicest people I can imagine. We’re all lucky to have them really.”
