Chapter 21: Counterattack

The remaining Bullheads are flying towards Vacuo and two have been shot down by flying suicidal Grimm.

Harriet: Flying Grimm inbound!

Vine: They must be expecting us.

Winter: Ace Operatives, eliminate all the Grimm and zetsus from Shade Academy. Miss Saegusa and I will use it as our primary base.

The Ace Operatives prove their worth as Ironwood's finest Huntsmen and Huntresses by wiping out the Grimm and zetsus guarding the infested academy.

Clover: Captain Ebi here. We eliminated the stragglers here but no sign of Momoshiki.

Winter: He cannot hide forever. Captain, you and the other Atlesian military will set this as our primary base while we search for him.

Clover: Understood.

The base was soon set up and the Ace Operatives took to guarding the streets. Winter had to assemble the soldiers to garrisons as the remaining army of Atlas had dwindled.

Meanwhile Naruto was outside the academy gazing at the stars. Pyrrha walked to him.

Pyrrha: You can't sleep, Naruto?

Naruto: Sadly no. We're at the heart of enemy territory and we're going to be zerg rushed soon. Momoshiki himself will be at the forefront of this invasion already forming new tactics against us.

Pyrrha: And you're worried we might be going to be captured or worse?

Naruto: That's right.

Pyrrha: (cups Naruto's face, making him look at her) Naruto, you are worrying me. Scaring me in fact. Please open up on what is wrong with you.

Naruto: Hinata told me the night back at Haven to always treat my team as family. We're both the last of our kinds and we'd probably lose our lives protecting them.

Pyrrha: I've noticed that Hinata is always staring at the picture of her family and told us what happened. You helped her?

Naruto: That's right.

Pyrrha: Thank you, Naruto. (kisses Naruto on the cheek, causing him to be slightly surprised) I'm going to bed. Goodnight.

Naruto: Goodnight.

Naruto went inside the room only to find Blake suddenly embrace him tightly. She didn't say anything but the look in her amber gaze told him that she was afraid of what the morrow might bring and she needed comfort.

He sat on the same spot where he talked to Pyrrha with Blake leaning on his shoulder. Small loving touches on the hands and simply silent stares told each other that this would be suicidal mission and they are willing to make peace with it.

They finally made it back to their assigned dorm where Blake smiled to him one last time before going to bed. Ruby tossed herself around and around but Naruto rubbed her black hair with red tips to calm her. It worked and made a contented noise before sleeping peacefully. He kissed her forehead before checking on Yang.

Yang was unconsciously activating her Semblance as her face marred into an anguished scowl. Naruto laid beside her for a bit and embraced her. He can feel her unconsciously hug him back and relaxed. Her face turned peaceful after that. Naruto found a spare pillow to use as substitute on him which she hugged. He found it cute and smile.

Naruto turned to Weiss and heard her making quiet sobs and twisted her head around before making gasps. Naruto gripped her hand around his before massaging it with his fingers. He scratched her snow white hair while she made approving sounds. Her body relaxed after that.
