=PERCY'S POV=
I awoke with the sun shining on the sea green walls of the Poseidon cabin. My eyes drifted to the corner of my cabin, where momentarily, I thought I saw a figure staring back at me. Empty black eyes had set their gaze onto my face and I felt as if I was being drawn towards them. Then I blinked and just like that, they were gone. But before I could wonder why in Hades there had been someone in my cabin, Annabeth burst in.
Instantly, all my fears melted. Her pretty, no, gorgeous, blonde hair was tied up in a ponytail, the sun bathing her in a soft golden light. No words could describe how beautiful she was. I waited for her to say something- preferably a sentence about how awesome I was, but she just stood there staring at me with an expression that said 'REALLY, seaweed brain?!'
For awhile none of us spoke, we just stared at each other awkwardly, until I started to feel uncomfortable. Finally she spoke: "You do know that it's past eight?" She said while her eyes twinkled mischievously.
I shot to my feet, "wait- what?! And you didn't wake me up?"
Annabeth smirked. "Come on seaweed brain, you're going to be late for breakfast."
"Wait, but- breakfast!? Are there still any pancakes?" I practically yelled as my eyes widened at the horrifying thought of no pancakes.
"Maybe if you hurry up." She replied, knowing that she had succeeded in making me get up without me even noticing what she was doing.
And with that she turned and walked out the door. Yep, that's Annabeth for you.
=ANNABETH'S POV=
As I jogged up to the dining pavilion, I recounted my talk with that insufferable goddess, Hera.
I was walking on the shore of Long Island when of course, Hera- I mean Hera, of all goddesses, just had to appear right in front of me.
The breeze ruffled through my blonde hair as she glowered down at me. She clearly wasn't happy about this either. "We need to talk."
"Oh, where did I hear that before?" I retorted as sarcasm laced my words.
"Just listen," the Queen Of Olympus growled.
I sighed in exasperation. "Fine."
"In a few days time, you will be offered a choice." She smiled maliciously, as if she knew what she said next would tear me apart. Sometimes, I wondered if her and Gaea were related.
"Just get to the point," I said through gritted teeth.
Her grin faded, like she'd just realized what she'd come to say."You will have to choose who will die: Percy or Jason."
"Wait- I have to choose?!" I screamed in disbelief.
"Yes." She said, her face emotionless, but I knew that she was equally terrified. One of the two greatest heroes of the century had to die and I had to choose.
I felt my eyes well up with tears. How could life be so cruel?! How could I choose between Percy and Jason? What would Piper say? I sobbed as I sank to my knees, the waves lapping at my feet. I remembered crying for so long that my throat went dry. I hadn't noticed, but only twenty meters away, a dark figure was watching me as a chesire grin crept up his face, savoring every moment of my despair.
Before I knew it, I had reached the dining pavilion. The mouth-watering aroma of fresh food wafted towards me and into my nostrils, cutting off any worries from last night. Feeling relaxed, well as relaxed as a demigod could ever be, I sat down at the Athena table, next to Malcolm, my half-brother. But, just as I was about to get up and grab a plate for myself, an ear-piercing scream filled the air. And I knew who that scream belonged to: Percy.
=PERCY'S POV=
15 minutes earlier...
After I'd finished brushing my teeth, I sat down on my bed wondering about Annabeth. I mean, things had seemed normal enough, but when she had opened the door this morning, I immediately knew something was wrong. Her stormy grey eyes were filled with worry, though she disguised it well. She'd tried to force a look of happiness because she knew it would upset me if I knew what was bothering her. But I'd been Annabeth's boyfriend long enough to know all of her tricks.
Suddenly, a sharp pain exploded on the back of my head and I screamed in pain as my vision started turning red. I heard voices whispering, laughing at me, calling my name: "Perseus..." At this point, I was scared that I was going insane- but my head pounded so hard that I just couldn't think straight.
I couldn't take it anymore. I felt the world tip sideways, just as someone busted into my cabin, and then everything went black.
