=PIPER'S POV=
The mental destruction of Percy Jackson started when an ugly, overweight, mortal passed through camp borders.
Up until then, I'd been having an awesome day. And by 'awesome,' I mean horrible. With the weight of everything that had happened in the last twenty-four hours, I was ready to drop. Frankly, I was surprised how Percy could still stand. I mean, painful, emotional torture dreams and the impact of falling out of a tree has got to do something to you. Not that he came out unfazed.
"Gabe." He whimpered. "W-what is h-happening, why are y-you here?!" Tears started streaming their way down his cheeks and his body shook while he cried.
Gabe only cackled as he watched the Savior of Olympus break down right in front of him. "You never learned, after all these years, you never learned..."
Percy looked up momentarily, straight into the eyes of the mortal. "Learned... what?" He immediately cringed, as if he already knew that the answer would not be something good.
An evil glint arose in Gabe's eyes, like he was hoping that Percy would ask that. "You never learned that I was always more powerful than you."
It happened so fast, none of us even knew what was going on. Gabe grabbed Percy's arm with such force that he screamed, and I was hit again with the memory of him shrieking in pain. The horrible sound filled my mind, making me numb. I felt that the same was happening to everyone else in the room. I couldn't speak, move or feel. All I could hear was Percy's voice echoing over and over again.
If that was it, I would've been relieved.
But of course, there was more.
While all of us just stood there, petrified, Gabe muttered something under his breath and Percy suddenly started hyperventilating. Slowly, they began to dissolve. Percy started yelling, but it was like he was muted- no sound came out. Percy, finally realizing that none of us could hear him, made one last frantic effort to communicate. He grabbed a nearby stick and began drawing on the floor of the cave. Gabe, his brain finally registering what he was doing, mumbled a few more incantations and then, with an audible ''poof,' they were gone.
As soon as they disappeared, the spell wore off. Everyone immediately ran to where Percy once stood. And there, carved into the stone was a picture. It was only half completed, giving that Percy had vanished before he could finish it, meaning that we had to try and decipher what it was. It looked like a square with little circles attached to the bottom. I instantly thought of the Hephaestus cabin. Once, when they were having their annual debate on what their main project should be for the next year, Leo had suggested a mine cart. Last year, it had been the Argo II. But the other children of the blacksmith god had vetoed the idea. They had said that a mine cart wasn't a big enough project and personally, I agreed with them. Why would camp need a mine cart? It was useless (sorry, Leo) and plus, I knew that Leo had only wanted to build it because it was in Minecraft. He'd been obsessed with the game ever since Annabeth introduced it to him so he could stop bothering her while she was working. I bet she regrets that decision.
