“Well, we’ve got food now that’s all that matters.” Luna is saying.
The fold opens and Luna’s head pops in. “I thought I told you to collect wood?” She says.
“We wanted to wait for food. If you didn’t come soon, we were going to leave.” I am an expert at lying. Andrew just nods, busing himself with his bag. Perfect!
“Well, we’ve got food now. Eat up and then get going!” Luna says while everyone files in to eat.
“What did you do alone?” Daisy asks. None of us blush, a bit too convincing. “No blush.” Daisy says.
“Unusual.”
“What’s your plan?” Jazz asks, mid-way through chewing some pineapple.
“We’re not gonna go too far away from the shelter, we’re collecting sticks.” Andrew says.
I nod in ascent.
“Cool.” Says Jazz, sitting down next to me, a large pineapple in her hand. She notices I’m staring at it. “Want some?” I nod my head and take a bite out of the juicy fruit. It’s heaven to my hunger and thirst.
“It’s amazing, isn’t it?” Courtney says, biting into her own pineapple. “It’s really close to camp too, I know the way.”
“I thought of it!” Luna butts in. “But we all did something.”
The rest of the group nods and we all continue to bite into our pineapples.
“Did you see any other food, I mean- we can’t live of pineapples.” I ask this question and Daisy gives a little giggle.
“What?” I ask. She giggles even louder until she bursts out into a fit. She can’t contain herself.
“What?” I ask again, starting to laugh myself a bit now. Slowly everybody starts to laugh because the situation is so ridiculous.
“It’s just-“ Daisy splutters through fits of laughter. “I swear, I KNOW Harriet and Andrew have done something together!” This brings on a furious blush but Andrew doesn’t show his own. Or does this just not affect him?
“I mean, I have many reasons. First, my sister had a crush on this boy for like a year-“
“Which one?” Courtney asks.
“Suzanne, the one who’s in college. Anyways, she had a crush on this boy and after a year she stopped stuttering when she was near him, a week after, she confessed to our family that they were dating!” She gasps slightly, her laughter retained at the goal of explaining her theory. My blush is dying down because even though the story is true the accusation is ridiculous.
“So?” Asks Jazz, defensively.
“So.” Says Daisy. “So, Harriet has stopped stuttering! Seriously, you know how last night she made a big fool of herself and she went after Andrew I think she warmed up to him and while they were “Waiting for food”” She says this bit doing quotation marks with her fingers.
“They were actually kissing or something!” She gasps slightly and takes a few deep breaths.
“Has Harriet stopped stammering?” Alex asks. “Ok, let’s get Andrew to ask her a question-“
“-No, but that will be staged and she’ll know!”
“It won’t affect anything!” Luna snaps. “Crushes don’t die out overnight. Especially ones as strong as that!”
“Anyways, why don’t we just ask them and get it over with! I mean, why are we all so against this?” Jazz says.
“I’m not against this!” Alex and Courtney say in unison. They look at each other for a second in amusement.
