WAYNEHe'd always dreamt of something bigger than himself; of a life beyond this. That was mostly because he felt he was made for something bigger than what the dark, musty walls of the Manwyn Keep had to offer.
Wayne swung his legs away from the ledge, jumping back into the tower and carrying his sword and whetstone with him. He stole one last glance over it, watching with a crooked smile as his little brother trained with the Master of Arms. Garrick, with hair as light as their mother's and eyes as brooding as their father's, focused intently on lifting the great steel sword with his spindly arms. His cheeks reddened with the effort and Wayne chuckled, remembering when he, too, was but a young boy failing to wield a sword let alone lift one.
Jogging to the open doorway, Wayne hefted the fallen wooden door back into the same position as he found it, being careful of the rusted hinges as their sharp squeals and whines echoed down the flight of stairs, no doubt even going so far as to reach his mother and father's private chambers.
The last thing he needed was for them to find him up here, of all places.
Stealthily making his way back into the narrow halls of the Keep, Wayne tried to act natural, greeting passing servants and avoiding wiping the unnoticeable flecks of dust covering his doublet.
Someone might think he just returned from training or scouring the library, not wallowing over his dreams in the Burnt Tower.
Making his way out onto the grassy green of the Keep, there he found his father and mother watching Garrick train from a respectable distance.
"Good morning, mother, father." He greeted his mother with a gentle kiss upon her cheek and a respectful nod to his father, who returned the gesture.
"We were beginning to wonder where you were," said Myra to her son. "You are to help Garrick as he begins his training, are you not?"
Wayne winced.
He had completely forgotten.
"Y-Yes. I merely lost track of time," he lied. Although, it was not a complete lie-He had lost track of time in the Tower, sulking and daydreaming as he was more wont to do these days.
He joined Garrick and the Master of Arms in the tiltyard, unsheathing his sword from his belt as he went. His little brother was so relieved at his arrival that he just about dropped the sword. He was promptly reprimanded for it and Wayne proceeded to demonstrate for his brother the proper way to hold a blade. Soon, Wayne Baratheon found himself demonstrating a one-on-one sparring match with the Master of Arms.
